We work in a cross-functional squad, collaborating closely with product, design, QA, and infrastructure to deliver improvements in scoring efficiency, accuracy and proficiency.\nAbout this role:\nAs a Senior Software Engineer, you will play a key role in designing, developing, maintaining and improving CDP’s central digital platform. You will contribute technical expertise to scalable systems development, mentor other engineers, and work cross-functionally to deliver high-quality solutions that support CDP’s environmental mission.\nWhat you will do:\nReport to a Lead Engineer and work collaboratively within a cross-functional squad\n\nWrite clean, high-quality, well-documented code using modern programming languages and frameworks (React, TypeScript, NodeJS, Python)\n\nPerform regular code reviews to uphold high standards of quality, maintainability, and security\n\nOptimise application performance and ensure the scalability of core systems\n\nContribute to architectural and design decisions in partnership with product and engineering leads\n\nHelp refine requirements and offer technical insight during sprint planning and reviews\n\nMaintain and improve internal technical documentation\n\nMentor junior engineers and support peer learning and technical growth\n\nStay informed on emerging technologies and propose relevant improvements\n\nActively contribute to an effective and engaged team, clear on its purpose and contribution, by:\nEnsuring you know what is expected of you, through regular 1:1’s, having clear objectives in place, and participating in open and honest performance and development conversations\n\nEnsuring a respectful and inclusive workplace, where team members communicate openly, share knowledge so it can be used, and respect difference.\n\nLiving the CDP Values and demonstrating the behaviours appropriate to your position.\n\nInternal stakeholders: Engineering, Product, QA, UX/UI, DevOps\nExternal stakeholders: None (unless integrating with third-party APIs or platforms)\nWe're looking for:\nStrong hands-on experience with React, TypeScript, NodeJS, and Python\n\nExperience building cloud-native solutions on Microsoft Azure (e.g. Azure DevOps, Azure Data Factory, Synapse, Power BI)\n\nFamiliarity with infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform (preferred)\n\nComfort working in Agile and DevOps environments\n\nExperience contributing to large-scale, multi-product software systems\n\nStrong communication skills and ability to collaborate across teams\n\nKnowledge or interest in climate tech, sustainability, or environmental data platforms\n\nNice to have:\nexperience with AI, knowledge of AI tools and systems\n\nSalary and benefits: The salary banding for this role is £70,000 - £80,000/year, 30 days’ holiday plus bank holidays, generous non-contributory pension provision, Employee Assistance Programme, life assurance, training and development, flexible working opportunities and other benefits.\nFinal offer amount depends on multiple factors such as candidates experience and expertise, geographic location, total compensation, and market data.\nThis is a permanent role based at CDP’s London office.
