This is a professional responsible for overseeing the movement of goods and products from one place to another. This involves coordinating with various stakeholders, warehouses, and transportation providers. The primary goal of a freight traffic controller is to ensure that shipments are delivered on time, in good condition, and keep accurate records of what is in the yard at all times. To achieve this, they must have excellent communication and organizational skills, as well as the ability to analyze data and make informed decisions.\nIn either case, their role is critical to ensuring the smooth operation of the supply chain. They must also be able to adapt to unexpected disruptions, such as natural disasters or transportation network congestion. By doing so, they can help ensure that goods are delivered safely and efficiently, and that the needs of customers are met. Freight traffic managers play a vital role in supporting economic growth.\nTasks are very complex in nature where considerable judgment and initiative are required in resolving problems and making recommendations. Decisions/actions may have an impact on the departments goals and may go beyond the department. Works under minimum supervision. By staying organized and focused, they ensure shipments are delivered safely and efficiently to meet our customers' needs.\nDetailed Description\nPerforms tasks such as, but not limited to, the following:\nProvides task leadership and technical expertise to the material handlers engaged in the timely and accurate movement and control of inventory.\nPerforms tasks such as receiving, shipping, counting, packaging, stock rotation, part identification and shelf life determination.\nFacilitates the timely and accurate movement and control of inventory in designated area of responsibility.\nBalances personnel within area of responsibility to minimize possible constraints that would adversely affect scheduled output of material.\nMonitors quantity and quality output and leads the team to meet group goals.\nMonitors material handlers performance by auditing transaction accuracy.\nCompiles data and generates reports as needed to illustrate the effectiveness of the processes.\nIdentifies, documents and proposes solutions for processing problems.\nReceives and processes materials coming in to the company including handling, inspection, labeling and delivery of materials.\nVerifies items received against purchase orders, bills of lading and packing lists.\nWorks with purchasing to resolve problems with inaccurate deliveries or incorrect delivery paperwork.\nVisually inspects deliveries for loss or damage.\nPrepares finished goods and other items for shipment.\nOrders and maintains supplies necessary to ship products.\nVerifies count and part numbers and prepares and packs items for shipment.\nPrepares shipping documentation and labels.\nSchedules and coordinates pick up for outgoing shipments.\nInteracts with freight carriers as needed.\nPosts weight and shipping charges and maintains detailed files for shipments.\nResearches and validates customers claims of wrong shipments, missing parts of a shipment, or defective products received.\nGenerates appropriate transactions to correct the error(s)\nKnowledge/Skills/Competencies\nKnowledge of warehouse, distribution, inventory control and shipping/receiving practices.\nKnowledge of personal computers and ability to learn and use applications specific to this area.\nAbility to maintain detailed and accurate records of material movement.\nBasic math skills.\nAbility to effectively communicate with a wide variety of internal customers.\nAbility to operate warehouse equipment such as reel counters, scales, pallet jacks and forklift.\n~Ability to effectively lead a wide variety of personnel engaged in warehouse operations.\nSpecific certifications and/or licenses as required.\nPhysical Demands\nDuties of this position will require checking the yard and checking trucks and drivers , will require lots of walking and moving around. \nDuties of this position are performed in a manufacturing environment with frequent exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, operating machinery, temperature extremes, hazardous substances, etc.\nDuties of this position require occasional sustained concentration to focus on small areas, objects, computers, etc.\nDuties of this position require occasional light physical effort and exertion including prolonged repetitive motion, standing, sitting in a confined work space, climbing, using equipment, handling lightweight materials, etc.\nDuties of this position require occasional heavy manual effort and considerable exertion including lifting objects over 20 pounds, requiring straining, pulling and lifting.\nTypical Experience\n0 to 3 years of relevant experience\nTypical Education\nHigh school diploma and additional courses after high school, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.\nNotes\nThis job description is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities of the position.
