They write, debug, maintain, and test software in various common languages and for software at various levels in the hierarchy (from Firmware to Application). Software creation follows an agreed to development process (such as Agile, Scrum, etc.) and complies with the product life cycle development (phase/gate deliverables).\nThe Senior Staff Engineer, Software works in cross functional teams with other designers, customers, manufacturing engineering and project leadership to ensure robust and high quality product development. Enhance designs with feedback from reviews in areas such as manufacturing, test, supply chain, reliability, industrial design and simulations.\nIn this role, the Senior Staff Engineer leads software development for Celestica's next-generation data center networking switches, with broad, hands-on specialization across the full switch software stack - Network Operating System (NOS), Board Support Package (BSP), switch silicon SDK integration, Diagnostics, OpenBMC, and BIOS/firmware. This is a role for a broad technologist and technical leader who has owned switch software end-to-end and can deliver complex programs with limited guidance and under tight deadlines.\nDetailed Description\nPerforms tasks such as, but not limited to, the following:\nLead the design, development and implementation of technical solutions for complex projects, involving multiple domains. Participate in project planning and scheduling.\nGlobal SME with comprehensive knowledge and industry recognition. Provides technical leadership and direction to a global team of engineers.\nTake responsibility for non-technical elements of an engineering project (people, financials etc.)\nReview and interpret customer specifications and may act as primary customer contact.\nAnalyze trade-offs in complex systems and recommend solutions. Develops deployment strategies and plans.\nLead the deployment of strategic complex programs and coordinate site-wide deployment efforts.\nMay manage relationships with key vendors/partners (merchant silicon, ODM, IP vendors).\nArchitect and develop NOS components - control plane, data plane programming, L2/L3 protocol integration, platform adaptation, and management interfaces (SONiC-based and/or proprietary NOS environments).\nDesign and develop the BSP - Linux kernel drivers, device tree, platform drivers (I2C, SPI, PCIe, GPIO, MDIO), and platform daemons for new switch hardware.\nWorking knowledge of merchant switch silicon SDKs (e.g., Broadcom, Marvell) and abstraction layers such as SAI; drive port bring-up, ASIC configuration, and performance tuning.\nDesign and build manufacturing and field Diagnostics - power-on self-test, high-speed interface validation, thermal/power/sensor tests, and fault-isolation tooling.\nWorking knowledge of OpenBMC based platform management, sensor monitoring, thermal control, power sequencing, IPMI/Redfish, and firmware update flows.\nWorking knowledge of BIOS/UEFI and low-level firmware bring-up, Secure Boot, and boot-flow debugging across the platform.\nLead board bring-up of new switch hardware like bootloader and Linux kernel enablement, high-speed interface bring-up (PCIe, USB, DDR, Ethernet) and troubleshoot hardware/software interaction issues across the stack.\nAnalyze, design and develop tests and test-automation suites; analyze and optimize switch/system performance for low latency and efficiency, and develop performance test methodologies.\nDesign and implement security features (data integrity, Secure Boot, vulnerability remediation) using current best practices.\nDesign and develop a processing platform using various configuration management technologies.\nTest software development methodology (may be done in agile environment).\nProvide ongoing maintenance, support and enhancements in existing systems and platforms.\nCollaborate cross-functionally with customers, users, project managers and other engineers including Peer-Reviews to achieve elegant solutions.\nProvide recommendations for continuous improvement.\nWork alongside other engineers on the team to elevate technology and consistently apply best practices.\nKeep up to date with relevant industry knowledge and regulations.\nKnowledge/Skills/Competencies\nProject Management - Ability to manage/lead complex, multiple line engineering projects that may also involve other functions. Demonstrate solid understanding of the technical, financial and people aspects of the project. Able to create a project/change management plan and ensure that the project is delivered within the assigned time and budget.
