With a growing portfolio of specialist businesses, Celnor provides essential services that protect people, property and the environment.\n\nWhile each business retains its own identity, culture and technical specialism, all are supported by a central group function that invests in people, systems and long-term sustainable growth.\n\nJob details\nWe are looking for a Senior Fire Engineer, to lead the delivery of fire engineering services for new and existing buildings, with a particular focus on existing residential buildings, fire risk appraisals of external walls (FRAEWs) in accordance with PAS 9980, fire strategies and proportionate remediation solutions.\n\nReporting to the Technical Director-Fire Engineering, taking responsibility for allocated commissions and provide clear, practical advice supported by evidence and sound professional judgement. Contribute to the technical standards, successful project delivery and development of Airey Miller’s fire engineering team. Clients include local authorities, housing associations, developers, contractors, building owners, managing agents and other public and private sector organisations.\n\nWhat you will do\nLead Fire Risk Appraisals of External Walls (FRAEWs) in accordance with PAS 9980, providing evidence-based conclusions and proportionate recommendations.\nDevelop fire strategies for new developments, refurbishments and changes of use.\nAssess existing buildings, identify fire safety deficiencies and advise on remediation solutions.\nManage projects from initial scope and fee proposals through to delivery, ensuring quality, budgets and deadlines are met.\nCoordinate with clients, contractors, developers and multidisciplinary design teams, including façade and structural specialists.\nSupport Building Safety Regulator (BSR) submissions and fire safety compliance for higher-risk buildings.\nUndertake site inspections, review technical evidence and ensure risks and recommendations are clearly documented.\nMentor junior engineers, undertake technical reviews and contribute to the continued growth of our fire engineering team.\n Who you are\nHave at least 5-10 years’ relevant post-qualification experience in fire engineering, with a proven ability to lead projects independently.\nBe able to demonstrable experience delivering FRAEWs in accordance with PAS 9980, including external wall investigations and remediation advice.\nHave strong experience in fire strategies, existing building assessments, compartmentation and fire protection.\nGood knowledge of Building Regulations, Approved Document B, relevant British Standards and the Building Safety Act framework.\nA relevant degree or equivalent technical qualifications, supported by substantial fire engineering experience.\nExcellent technical report writing, analytical and communication skills, with the ability to manage clients, projects and fees.\nExperience supervising or mentoring engineers and coordinating multidisciplinary teams.\nMembership of the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE) or a relevant professional body; Chartered Engineer, Incorporated Engineer or Chartered Building Engineer status, or progress towards professional registration, is desirable.\nJoin us\nYou’ll be joining a business where your contribution matters and where professionalism, integrity and teamwork are genuinely valued.
