About the Role

We are seeking a Trainee Field Services Technician to join our growing team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a graduate, trainee or practically minded individual looking to begin a career within the environmental sector. Through structured training and hands-on experience, you will develop specialist skills across environmental monitoring, water sampling, noise monitoring, air quality monitoring and a range of environmental field services.

The role is primarily field-based, involving travel to industrial, commercial and public sector sites throughout Ireland. Based from our Limerick office, you'll work closely with experienced technicians, learning how to undertake environmental monitoring programmes, collect environmental samples, maintain monitoring equipment and support the delivery of environmental compliance services.

Axis offers a clearly defined progression pathway, enabling successful candidates to develop into technicians and progress into more senior technical and supervisory roles over time.

Key Responsibilities

  • Travel to client sites across Ireland to support environmental monitoring projects.
  • Assist with environmental noise surveys and occupational air and noise monitoring.
  • Collect groundwater, surface water, stormwater and wastewater samples.
  • Install, service and retrieve ambient air and dust monitoring equipment.
  • Support Legionella sampling and other specialist environmental monitoring activities.
  • Assist with bund integrity testing and environmental field investigations.
  • Prepare monitoring equipment, sample containers and project documentation.
  • Label, preserve, store and transport samples in accordance with company procedures.
  • Complete field sheets, chain-of-custody forms, photographs and electronic records accurately.
  • Enter and check monitoring data and assist with factual reporting.
  • Carry out equipment checks, maintenance and calibrations following training.
  • Work safely in accordance with site rules, risk assessments and company procedures.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives across the business.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Essential Requirements

  • Full driving licence valid for driving in Ireland.
  • Strong attention to detail and an organised approach to work.
  • Good communication, numeracy and basic computer skills.
  • Interest in environmental monitoring and technical field work.
  • Ability to follow written procedures and work safely.
  • Willingness to travel regularly, including occasional early starts and overnight stays.
  • Comfortable working outdoors and carrying out practical tasks in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to work independently following training and as part of a team.
  • Reliable, punctual and professional approach.

Desirable

  • Qualification in Environmental Science, Chemistry, Engineering, Laboratory Science or a related discipline.
  • Previous experience in a field service, environmental, laboratory or technical role.
  • Experience with environmental sampling or monitoring activities.
  • Experience working on industrial, utility, construction or wastewater treatment sites.
  • Knowledge of water sampling, monitoring equipment or sample handling procedures.
  • Safe Pass, Manual Handling or other relevant site safety training.

Candidates with strong practical ability and a willingness to learn will also be considered, as full training will be provided.

What We're Looking For

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual who enjoys practical work, problem-solving and working in a field-based environment.

The successful candidate will be eager to learn, self-motivated and comfortable working outdoors at a variety of client sites. You'll enjoy hands-on work, be willing to travel and have a genuine interest in building a long-term career within environmental monitoring and compliance.

Whether you're a recent graduate or someone with practical experience looking for a new career path, this role offers an excellent opportunity to develop specialist technical skills within a growing business.

Salary and Benefits

  • Basic salary of €30,680 per annum.
  • Structured training and development programme.
  • Clear career progression pathway with defined salary progression.
  • Opportunity to develop specialist environmental monitoring expertise.
  • Exposure to a variety of industrial sectors throughout Ireland.
  • Supportive and collaborative working environment.
  • Opportunity to progress into senior technician and supervisory roles.
