Position will remain posted until filled.\nSome travel may be required to Central City during Festival season and for other organizational needs.\nPOSITION SUMMARY\nCentral City Opera Association (CCOA) seeks a Controller to oversee the day-to-day financial operations of the organization and ensure the accuracy, timeliness, and integrity of all accounting processes and reporting.\nThis role is responsible for managing core accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, restricted funds tracking, and financial reporting. The Controller will play a critical role in maintaining strong financial discipline, supporting audit processes, and ensuring compliance with nonprofit accounting standards.\nThis is a hands-on position focused on execution, process management, and operational excellence within the finance function.\nThe Controller reports to the President & CEO and works closely with the Compliance Officer/Interim CFO and other members of the leadership team.\nKEY RESPONSIBILITIES\nOversee all accounting operations, including:Accounts payable and receivable\nPayroll processing\nBank reconciliations\nGeneral ledger maintenance\n\nMaintain accurate and timely financial records in accordance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards\nTrack and manage restricted funds, ensuring compliance with donor intent and reporting requirements\nPrepare monthly financial statements, including:Income statement\nBalance sheet\nStatement of cash flows\n\nSupport the annual audit process, including:Preparation of schedules\nResponding to auditor requests\nEnsuring timely completion\n\nMonitor budget-to-actual performance and assist in identifying variances\nMaintain and improve accounting systems, processes, and internal controls\nSupervise and support accounting staff (including Staff Accountant / AP & Payroll functions)\nEnsure compliance with all federal, state, and local financial reporting requirements\nSupport recurring internal financial reporting for management and Board committees as directed\nProvide timeline and budget worksheets to department heads to complete annual budgeting and planning process on time; compile inputs for drafts and finalized version for Board approval.\nProvide CCOHA department heads with routine reporting and budget-to-actual income and expenses for reconciliation and forecasting/reforecasting of annual departmental budgets.\nQUALIFICATIONS\nMinimum of 5-7 years of experience in accounting or finance, with increasing responsibility\nBachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required\nExperience in nonprofit accounting strongly preferred\nSolid understanding of GAAP and fund accounting principles\nExperience with accounting software systems (QuickBooks or similar)\nStrong attention to detail and organizational skills\nAbility to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment\nPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS\nCPA or CPA candidate preferred\nExperience working in arts, nonprofit, or mission-driven organizations\nExperience supporting audits and financial reporting processes\nFamiliarity with restricted funds and grant tracking\nCORE COMPETENCIES\nStrong attention to detail and accuracy\nExcellent organizational and time management skills\nClear and effective communication\nAbility to work independently and as part of a team\nProfessionalism, discretion, and integrity\nWORK ENVIRONMENT & EXPECTATIONS\nAbility to manage a fluctuating workload during peak periods, including Festival season\nOccasional evening or weekend work may be required\nPrimarily in-office, with flexibility as approved.\nBENEFITS\nComprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision\n100% employer-paid life insurance and disability coverage\nGenerous paid time off and holiday schedule\n403(b) retirement plan with immediate eligibility\nEQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY\nCCO is committed to creating and sustaining an inclusive and equitable work environment.
