Throughour unique combination of household heroes and energy assets, we’re at the heart of the energy transition in Ireland, strengthening the country’s energy security and helping customers get ready for a net zero future.\nData Science and Analytics Manager\nLocation: Hybrid, 2 days per week at our office in Warrington Place\n Permanent\nBord Gáis Energy (BGE) is transforming how data is governed and used to support customer, commercial and operational decisions. Reporting to the Head of the Data Centre of Excellence (Data CoE), the Data Science & Analytics Manager will lead data scientists, analytics specialists and developing talent. The role is accountable for delivering and sustaining diagnostic, predictive and prescriptive analytics across BGE, translating business priorities into high-quality models, analytical products and actionable insight.\nKey Responsibilities:\nShape and articulate BGE’s data science and analytics strategy with the Head of the Data CoE, linking priorities to measurable business outcomes.\nBuild trusted senior stakeholder relationships and maintain a transparent, value-led process for demand, prioritisation, delivery updates, risks and dependencies.\nLead the design, testing, productionisation and lifecycle management of automated analytical products, including customer value, propensity, churn, segmentation, forecasting, contact analytics and operational optimisation.\nDevelop reusable, governed datasets and scalable cloud-based analytics with data engineering, platform, reporting and governance colleagues, maximising reuse and reducing duplication.\nEnsure models are accurate, explainable, reproducible, documented, monitored and maintained through effective peer review, validation, controls and performance measures.\nMaintain strong knowledge of BGE’s Customer Operations, Services and EMD businesses, focusing analytical effort on the highest-value opportunities and ensuring clear hand-offs into implementation and value realisation.\nAnticipate emerging needs, lead complex analysis and provide stakeholders with clear findings, limitations and recommended actions.\nPromote responsible use of data, machine learning and generative AI in line with governance, privacy, security, ethical AI and model-risk requirements.\nRetire manual, duplicated or low-value processes where controlled automation is available.\nLead, coach and develop the team through clear objectives, feedback, mentoring and inclusive workforce planning, demonstrating BGE’s values.\nThe Ideal Candidate:\nExtensive experience in senior data science, advanced analytics or a related role, including people leadership or significant analytical delivery.\nProven ability to balance urgent business needs with scalable, automated and well-governed capability, supported by resilient delivery, quality assurance and stakeholder engagement.\nStrong practical experience with Databricks or similar cloud analytics platforms, Python, SQL, large-scale Azure or Oracle data environments, Power BI and the Microsoft Power Platform.\nExperience across the machine-learning lifecycle, including version control, testing, deployment, monitoring and documentation; generative AI, natural language processing or contact analytics experience is advantageous.\nKnowledge of billing, CRM, digital, customer-contact and operational data; Oracle CC&B and Salesforce experience is particularly relevant.\nAbility to work across KPI Reporting, Data Engineering, Data Governance, platform teams and the business to deliver end-to-end solutions.\nStrong people leadership, mentoring, prioritisation, negotiation and communication skills, including explaining complex concepts and recommendations to senior management.\nWorking knowledge of data quality, GDPR, privacy, responsible AI and model governance, with the ability to partner effectively with Governance, Risk, Security and Legal.\nExperience of leading & managing teams\nAbility to deputise for the Head of the Data CoE when required; experience in energy, utilities or another regulated customer-focused sector is desirable.\nPreferred Qualifications & Skills:\nA relevant postgraduate qualification, or equivalent practical experience, in data science, statistics, mathematics, computer science, economics or a related discipline.\nA clear, candid and constructive communicator who listens well, collaborates across functions and shares knowledge.\nAn advocate for reproducibility, explainability, documentation, engineering discipline, data governance and responsible AI.\nProcess-driven and pragmatic, balancing immediate delivery with sustainable capability and avoiding unnecessary bureaucracy.\nCreates an inclusive environment where people develop, challenge assumptions, solve problems creatively and remove delivery bottlenecks.\nWhy should you apply?\nWe’re not a perfect place - but we’re a people place.
