Join us to help scale inference and accelerate AI.\nWe’re looking for a Software Engineer focused on Observability to build and evolve the systems that give us deep visibility into large-scale, performance-critical production systems.\nYou’ll design and implement metrics, logging, tracing, and alerting infrastructure that enables fast debugging, high reliability, and confident operation of complex distributed systems. This role sits at the intersection of platform engineering, distributed systems, and reliability.\nThis is not a dashboards-only role - you’ll be writing production software, shaping internal platforms, and working closely with engineers across the stack.\nResponsibilities\nDesign and implement observability instrumentation across services and platforms\n\nBuild and maintain telemetry pipelines for metrics, logs, and traces at scale\n\nDevelop internal observability platforms, libraries, and tooling\n\nDefine and operationalize SLIs, SLOs, and alerting strategies\n\nPartner with engineers to make systems debuggable by design\n\nReduce MTTR by enabling fast root-cause analysis during incidents\n\nCreate clear, actionable dashboards and alerts that reflect real system health\n\nBalance telemetry signal vs cost, noise, and performance impact\n\nImprove the developer experience around observability and debugging\n\nQualifications:\nCore Engineering Skills\nStrong experience in backend or systems software engineering\n\nProficiency in one or more of:\nGo, C++, Rust, Java, Python\n\nSolid understanding of:\nDistributed systems\n\nNetworking fundamentals\n\nConcurrency and performance tradeoffs\n\nObservability & Reliability Experience\nHands-on experience with:\nMetrics, logs, and distributed tracing\n\nProduction monitoring and alerting\n\nFamiliarity with tools such as:\nOpenTelemetry\n\nPrometheus\n\nGrafana\n\nDatadog / Elastic / Jaeger / Tempo (or similar)\n\nExperience designing:\nHigh-signal alerts\n\nScalable telemetry pipelines\n\nService-level indicators and objectives\n\nPreferred Qualifications:\nExperience in high-performance computing, AI/ML systems, or inference platforms\n\nHardware-aware observability (accelerators, GPUs, custom hardware)\n\nPrior SRE or platform engineering background\n\nExperience debugging large-scale production incidents\n\nBuilding internal developer platforms or shared libraries\n\nWhy Join Cerebras\nPeople who are serious about software make their own hardware.
