CesiumAstro is an American company founded in Austin in 2017 that builds active phased array communications payloads for satellites, aircraft and defence platforms. Its systems are software-defined and electronically steered, which lets a moving platform track several links at once without mechanical antennas, and the company manufactures them in house rather than integrating third-party subsystems. It sells mainly to defence customers and satellite operators, has raised venture funding from investors including Airbus Ventures and Lightspeed, and operates facilities in Austin, Colorado and the United Kingdom.

We are looking to add a Manager, CNC Machining to our team. If you enjoy working in a startup environment and are passionate about developing leading-edge hardware for satellites, spacecraft, and aerospace systems, we would like to hear from you.

  • Oversee CNC machining activities including machine setup, tooling, production scheduling, equipment utilization, machining readiness, and manufacturing performance.
  • Ensure machining operations comply with engineering drawings, GD&T requirements, manufacturing procedures, quality standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies.
  • Monitor production performance, machining metrics, equipment utilization, tooling performance, and operational effectiveness while implementing corrective actions as needed.
  • Collaborate with engineering, quality, production control, supply chain, and operations teams to support machining activities and production objectives.
  • Communicate machining performance, operational risks, staffing requirements, resource needs, and production status to leadership and cross-functional partners.
  • Develop machining personnel through coaching, mentoring, performance management, workforce planning, and employee development.
  • Establish machining processes, production procedures, safety practices, and continuous improvement initiatives supporting operational objectives.
  • Evaluate machining performance, production processes, quality metrics, equipment utilization, and manufacturing methods while implementing improvements that strengthen machining capabilities.
  • Drive initiatives that enhance safety, quality, productivity, machining efficiency, cost performance, and operational excellence.

JOB REQUIREMENTS AND MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree with 7-9 years of related experience in manufacturing, manufacturing engineering, industrial technology, mechanical engineering, operations management, or a related field.

1-3 years of leadership or supervisory experience.

  • Advanced proficiency in CNC machining operations, precision machining, manufacturing processes, GD&T, and shop floor operations.
  • Expertise managing CNC machining personnel, production schedules, machining resources, tooling, and operational performance.
  • Strong understanding of machining methods, cutting tools, equipment utilization, quality systems, lean manufacturing, safety requirements, and continuous improvement principles.
  • Demonstrates the ability to balance safety, quality, cost, schedule, staffing, equipment utilization, and operational priorities across machining operations.
  • Exercises sound judgment when managing personnel, resolving operational challenges, and supporting manufacturing objectives.
  • Experitise in CNC machine controls and manufacturing software, e.g. Haas, Fanuc, Mazatrol, Siemens, or equivalent systems.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing execution systems (MES), ERP systems, and production management applications, e.g. Epicor, SAP, Solumina, or equivalent applications.
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal.
