CesiumAstro is an American company founded in Austin in 2017 that builds active phased array communications payloads for satellites, aircraft and defence platforms. Its systems are software-defined and electronically steered, which lets a moving platform track several links at once without mechanical antennas, and the company manufactures them in house rather than integrating third-party subsystems. It sells mainly to defence customers and satellite operators, has raised venture funding from investors including Airbus Ventures and Lightspeed, and operates facilities in Austin, Colorado and the United Kingdom.

We are looking to add a Mechanical Engineer I to our team. If you enjoy working in a startup environment and are passionate about developing leading-edge hardware for satellites, spacecraft, and aerospace systems, we would like to hear from you.

In this position, you will be responsible for mechanical designs of Cesium products through all phases of the development process. The ideal candidate will be proficient in electronics packaging design, mechanical simulations and analyses, computer-aided design (CAD), spacecraft mechanical interfaces, and environmental qualification of electronic assemblies.

As a Cesium mechanical team member, you will be responsible for mechanical designs from initial concept design through requirements definition, detailed design, simulation, analysis, manufacturing, testing, qualification, and in-orbit support of Cesium's products. The ideal candidate will have skills and experience that include thermal management design, precision machining principles, thermal simulation and analysis, shock and vibration simulation and analysis, electromagnetic interference/compatibility (EMI/EMC) mitigation techniques, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), finite element analysis (FEA), and cost analysis to develop, validate, and optimize mechanical designs.

The successful candidate may also present engineering design review materials to our customers and leadership team - excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.

  • Understanding of mechanical engineering principles
  • Analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with CAD tools such as SolidWorks, CATIA, Creo, or AutoCAD
  • Practical understanding of DFM/DFMA implications of material and process selection
  • Knowledge of GD&T, drafting standards, and engineering documentation practices.
  • Experience with Engineering analysis tools such as (ANSYS, MATLAB, or similar)
  • Experience with CNC manufacturing
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

  • Familiarity with electronics assemblies and experience working closely with electrical engineers.
  • Aerospace industry design, development, qualification, and aerospace manufacturing processes
  • Experience in electronics packaging, including thermal, vibration, and stress dynamics or in spacecraft structures and mechanisms
  • Experience with EMI/EMC mitigation techniques.
