The company's products are powered by Coherent Distributed Networks (CDN™), empowering warfighters, commercial air operators, and border protection teams to act faster, adapt rapidly, and stay ahead of evolving threats. \nCHAOS Industries was founded in 2022 and has raised a total of $1 billion in funding from leading investors, including 8VC, Accel, and Valor Equity Partners. The company is headquartered in Los Angeles, with offices in Washington, D.C., San Francisco, San Diego, and London. For more information, please visit www.chaosinc.com.\nRole Overview:\nWe are seeking a software engineer who is fluent in numerical computing to build the software foundation of our electromagnetic warfare product line. Our Spectrum Sensing team is transforming CHAOS radar systems into distributed sensing systems that detect, classify, and geolocate RF emissions - and the algorithms that do it only matter if they run correctly, quickly, and reliably in production.\nThis is a software engineering role first. You will own how our numerical and signal processing code is architected, integrated, tested, and accelerated. You do not need a background in RF or radar; you do need to be the person on the team who knows why a Python implementation is slow, what to do about it, and how to build a codebase that other engineers can safely extend. You will work alongside signal processing and RF engineers who supply the algorithms, and you will be the reason those algorithms become dependable software.\nResponsibilities:\nAs a key contributor to the Spectrum Sensing team, you will shape the software architecture and engineering practices behind our sensing stack. The day-to-day will be diverse, engaging, and intellectually stimulating, with direct impact on pushing the boundaries of sensing technology and application. Key responsibilities include:\nDesign, develop, and maintain production-quality numerical software in Python, with an emphasis on clear interfaces, composability, and long-term maintainability\nIntegrate third-party software and hardware into the CHAOS platform via APIs, and own the abstractions that keep those integrations from leaking into the rest of the codebase\nProfile and accelerate signal processing implementations - through vectorization, array-programming frameworks, JIT compilation, GPU offload, or bindings to compiled code - and quantify the improvement\nDefine and drive test and CI hygiene for numerical code: numerical regression tests, tolerance and reproducibility strategy, property-based and reference-implementation testing, and automation that catches breakage before a field demonstration does\nPartner with signal processing engineers to turn algorithms from papers, prototypes, and MATLAB into software that ships\nContribute to overall software architecture decisions for the sensing product line, including how components compose across the platform\nThis role will require periodic travel, up to 30%\nMinimum Requirements:\nB.S. degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or a related field\n5+ years of professional software development experience\nDemonstrated proficiency in Python for numerical computing, including writing, maintaining, testing, and debugging production-quality codebases - not analysis scripts or notebooks alone\nStrong command of array-based numerical computing (NumPy, SciPy, or equivalent), including an understanding of where and why Python performance breaks down\nDemonstrated experience making numerical code fast through at least one of: array/tensor DSLs and JIT compilation (JAX, Numba, PyTorch, Triton, Halide, or similar), GPU-accelerated computing (CUDA or equivalent), or bindings between Python and compiled languages (pybind11, nanobind, Cython, or similar)\nDemonstrated experience contributing to a large, multi-team codebase - working within existing architecture, navigating unfamiliar code, and shipping changes that other teams depend on\nStrong software engineering fundamentals: version control workflow, code review, automated testing, and CI\nStrong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly document technical details and present findings\nMust be able to work on-site 4 days per week in Washington, D.C.\nU.S. citizen\nAbility to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance\nPreferred Requirements\nM.S. degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a related field\nMeaningful open-source contributions to numerical, scientific computing, or signal processing software (we will read your commit history, not just your repository list)\nExposure to digital signal processing - filtering, FFT-based processing, detection and estimation, or beamforming - whether from coursework, research, or industry\nExperience with software-defined radios (SDRs) or associated signal processing toolkits (e.g., GNU Radio)\nExperience with real-time, streaming, or throughput-constrained data processing systems\nExperience designing APIs or libraries consumed by other engineering teams\nFamiliarity with MATLAB, sufficient to read and port existing algorithm prototypes\nCurrent U.S. security clearance\nExperience with agile development tools like JIRA and Confluence\nExperience in DoD, military, or other Government environment in a fast-paced, dynamic environment\nhy CHAOS?\nHealth Benefits: Medical, dental, and vision benefits 100% paid for by the company\n Additional benefits: 401k (+ 50% company match up to 6% of pay), FSA, HSA, life insurance, and more\nOur Perks: Free daily lunch while you're working onsite, fully-stocked kitchen, unlimited PTO, casual dress code\n Compensation Components: Competitive base salaries, generous pre-IPO stock option grants, relocation assistance, and (coming soon!) annual bonuses\nTeam Growth: 500+ employees and counting across 5 global offices\n Salary Range: $150,000 - $210,000\nThe stated compensation range reflects only the targeted base compensation range and excludes additional earnings such as bonus, equity, and benefits. If your compensation requirements fall outside of the range, we still encourage you to apply. The salary range for this role is an estimate based on a range of compensation factors, inclusive of base salary only. Actual salary offer may vary based on (but not limited to) work experience, education and/or training, critical skills, and/or business considerations. \nRecruiting Agencies: CHAOS Industries does not accept unsolicited resumes or outreach. Unsolicited submissions will not be reviewed or compensated.\n#LI-onsite","description_format":"text","description_chars":6683,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":5,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":{"level":"bachelor","optional":false},"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":["401k plan","Annual bonuses","Equity","Life insurance","Relocation assistance","Unlimited PTO"],"hiring_locations":[],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":true,"industries":["C4ISR","Space Defense"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-10-09T03:55:46Z"}],"visa":[{"country":"US","licensed_sponsor":true,"evidence":"H-1B filings in 12 months: 1","filings_12m":1,"filings_prev_12m":0,"green_card_filings_12m":0,"median_offered_wage_usd":192500,"route":null,"cap_exempt":false,"checked_at":"2026-10-03T21:08:04+00:00","sources":["US Department of Labor: LCA disclosure data (H-1B, H-1B1, E-3)"],"filings_for_role_12m":1}],"liveness":{"score":90,"band":"hot","label":"Hiring now","p_open":1,"p_active":0.903,"p_room":1,"age_days":6,"expected_fill_days":70,"reasons":["conf:2","velocity","win:early","comp:brand"],"computed_at":"2026-10-14T06:34:16Z"},"pay":{"stated_usd_annual":210000,"is_top_pay":true},"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/chaos-industries-software-engineer-numerical-computing","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/chaos-industries-software-engineer-numerical-computing.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-10-14T07:04:05Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","about":"Alion is a live layer of people, companies and AI agents: who they are, whether they are real and active right now, what they do and how to work with them, readable by people and by agents and paid per call.","catalog":"https://alion.io/catalog.json","usage":{"tier":"crawler_verified","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":8403,"day_limit":null,"remaining_today":null,"minute_limit":300,"resets_at":"2026-10-15T00:00:00Z"}},"offers":[{"id":"company.slices","title":"One company in depth, by slice","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002,"plus_per_slice":{"credits":0.05,"usd":0.005}},"unit":"per company, plus each slice with data","note":"the employer in depth","call":{"mcp_tool":"get_company","arguments":{"id":672875},"rest":"https://alion.io/mcp/rest/get_company?id=672875"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.slices&for=job%2Fchaos-industries-software-engineer-numerical-computing"},{"id":"market.stats","title":"A market slice: pay, demand and time to fill","status":"live","price":{"credits":1,"usd":0.1},"unit":"per slice","note":"pay, demand and time to fill for this role and place","call":{"mcp_tool":"market_stats"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=market.stats&for=job%2Fchaos-industries-software-engineer-numerical-computing"},{"id":"job.search","title":"Open jobs by role, technology, place, pay and visa","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002},"unit":"per posting in a list","note":"similar open postings","call":{"mcp_tool":"search_jobs"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=job.search&for=job%2Fchaos-industries-software-engineer-numerical-computing"},{"id":"company.verify","title":"Is this company real and active right now","status":"pilot","price":null,"unit":"per company","request":{"url":"https://alion.io/catalog/request","method":"POST","body":"{\"offer\": \"company.verify\", \"for\": \"job/chaos-industries-software-engineer-numerical-computing\", \"note\": \"what you need it for\"}"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.verify&for=job%2Fchaos-industries-software-engineer-numerical-computing"}]}
