The Automation Engineer plays a key role in designing, developing, maintaining, and executing automated testing solutions that support application delivery and production stability. Working closely with development teams and business partners, this role provides opportunities to build deep technical expertise, influence testing practices, and improve automation capabilities across the organization. The position also provides leadership opportunities through mentoring Junior Automation Engineers and driving continuous improvement initiatives.\nKey Responsibilities\nDesign, develop, maintain, and execute automated test suites while creating high-quality test plans and test cases aligned to business and technical requirements.\nPerform defect triage, root cause analysis, defect tracking, and partner with Application Development teams to drive issue resolution.\nDevelop test data strategies, identify testing risks, recommend mitigation plans, and evaluate opportunities for process and technical improvements.\nCollaborate with Business Analysts, Product Owners, and technology teams to validate requirements and acceptance criteria while building strong technical partnerships.\nMentor Junior Automation Engineers by providing technical guidance, reviewing testing artifacts, and promoting automation best practices.\nWhat you have\nTo ensure that we have fulfilled our promise of 'challenging the status quo,' this role has specific qualifications that successful candidates should have.\nRequired Qualifications\n5+ years of experience developing and maintaining automated tests using Java-based automation frameworks.\nExperience with Java, Selenium, Cucumber, REST APIs, Oracle, JUnit, Gradle, and Swagger.\nExperience working in Windows, Linux, and Unix environments.\nSolid understanding of SDLC principles, testing methodologies, defect management processes, and how applications interact across distributed environments.\nExperience translating business requirements and acceptance criteria into effective test coverage.\nStrong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, communication, and collaboration skills.\nBachelor's degree in Computer Science or related discipline, or equivalent work experience.\nPreferred Qualifications\nExperience mentoring or providing technical guidance to junior automation engineers.\nFamiliarity with MongoDB, PostgreSQL, Oracle Coherence, Java RMI, and Jira.\nKnowledge of financial markets or financial operations.\nIn addition to the salary range, this role is also eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities\nWhat’s in it for you\nAt Schwab, you’re empowered to shape your future.
