Within Thematic Investing, you'll join a team responsible for one of Schwab's most innovative client experiences, providing investors access to curated investment themes backed by Schwab research. As a Java Developer on the Thematic Core Services team, you will play a key role in designing and delivering scalable, high-performing applications and services that support business growth and exceptional client experiences.\nThis role requires strong technical expertise, sound decision-making, and a passion for solving complex engineering challenges. You'll collaborate closely with architects, product teams, business partners, and fellow engineers to design, develop, test, and enhance modern microservices and API-driven solutions. Success in this role requires balancing technical excellence with collaboration, mentoring team members, optimizing application performance, and continuously improving development practices. Your contributions will directly influence the reliability, scalability, and evolution of Schwab's Thematic Investing platform.\nWhat you have\nRequired Qualifications\nBachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field\n8+ years of professional experience in Java software development\nStrong experience with Java, Spring Framework, Hibernate, and RESTful web services\n8+ years of experience designing, developing, testing, and deploying enterprise applications\nExtensive experience designing and building APIs\nExtensive experience developing and supporting microservices architectures\nExperience working with relational databases such as Oracle, MySQL, or PostgreSQL\nStrong understanding of object-oriented programming principles and design patterns\nExperience working in Agile/Scrum development environments\nExperience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices\nExcellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills\nAbility to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams and mentor less experienced developers\nPreferred Qualifications\nExperience with trading platforms and/or high-volume, high-availability systems\nExperience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud\nExperience with Docker, Kubernetes, or related containerization and orchestration technologies\nExperience with JavaScript, HTML, and CSS\nExperience contributing to software architecture and technical design decisions\nExperience optimizing applications for performance, scalability, and reliability\nDemonstrated leadership and mentoring experience\nIn addition to the salary range, this role is eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities.\nWhat’s in it for you\nAt Schwab, you’re empowered to shape your future.
