We believe in the importance of in-office collaboration and fully intend for the selected candidate for this role to work on site in the specified location(s).\nWe are seeking a Senior Container Platform Engineer to join our Infrastructure Platforms organization, helping build and operate resilient, secure, and repeatable enterprise container platforms across Schwab’s on-premises data centers. You will design, automate, optimize, and support PCF/Tanzu Platform for Cloud Foundry and Red Hat OpenShift environments that enable application teams to deploy and operate containerized workloads at scale.\nAs a senior technical contributor, you will influence platform architecture, engineering standards, lifecycle planning, automation, and complex production support. You will solve issues spanning Linux, compute, networking, storage, identity, security, and observability while partnering across application, architecture, security, infrastructure, operations, and vendor teams. Success requires strong technical judgment, problem solving, collaboration, adaptability, and the ability to turn production lessons into lasting platform improvements. This role participates in an on-call production support rotation.\nWhat you have\nRequired Qualifications\nBachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent practical work experience.\n7+ years of experience in platform engineering, systems engineering, infrastructure engineering, software development, or infrastructure automation, including senior-level responsibility for production platforms.\n4+ years of hands-on experience building, administering, upgrading, and supporting enterprise PCF, Tanzu Platform for Cloud Foundry, Red Hat OpenShift, or comparable Kubernetes-based platforms in production.\nSignificant hands-on experience managing container platforms hosted in on-premises data centers.\nDemonstrated experience with production platform architecture and operations, including high availability, disaster recovery, backup and restore, capacity management, patching, upgrades, security remediation, and lifecycle planning.\nAdvanced knowledge of Kubernetes and container platform concepts, including cluster architecture, operators, scheduling, ingress, service discovery, persistent storage, registries, secrets, certificates, identity integration, and policy enforcement.\nStrong Linux administration and troubleshooting skills across operating systems, containers, networks, storage, and distributed platform services.\nExperience developing production-quality automation or software using Python, C#, Java, Go, or a comparable modern language, including APIs, scripting, automated testing, and source control.\nExperience with Git-based delivery, continuous integration/continuous delivery, GitOps, declarative configuration, and infrastructure or configuration-as-code practices.\nExperience implementing observability through metrics, logging, tracing, monitoring, alerting, dashboards, and actionable service health indicators.\nDemonstrated ability to solve complex technical problems, make sound decisions in ambiguous situations, communicate tradeoffs, influence cross-functional partners, and lead work from design through stable production operation.\nAbility and willingness to participate in an on-call production support rotation.\nPreferred Qualifications\nDeep experience with both PCF or Tanzu Platform for Cloud Foundry and Red Hat OpenShift in large, regulated, on-premises environments.\nExperience with OpenShift GitOps or Argo CD, Advanced Cluster Management, Advanced Cluster Security, OpenShift Pipelines, Quay, Concourse, or comparable platform management and delivery tooling.\nExperience with Ansible Automation Platform and platform provisioning, configuration, upgrades, application onboarding, and remediation automation.\nExperience integrating container platforms with VMware vSphere or other enterprise virtualization, software-defined networking, enterprise storage, load balancers, DNS, PKI, identity providers, secrets management, and security tooling.\nExperience with Splunk, Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry-compatible tooling, or similar enterprise observability platforms.\nExperience with AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud supporting hybrid-cloud evaluation and future platform planning.\nRelevant certifications such as Red Hat Certified OpenShift Administrator, Red Hat Certified Specialist in OpenShift, Kubernetes CKA or CKS, or Tanzu and Cloud Foundry certifications.\nExperience in financial services or another highly regulated industry.\nExperience mentoring engineers and developing durable runbooks, reference architectures, engineering standards, support procedures, and reusable platform patterns.\nIn addition to the salary range, this role is eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities.\nWhat’s in it for you\nAt Schwab, you’re empowered to shape your future.
