Within Thematic Investing, you'll join a team responsible for one of Schwab's most innovative client experiences, providing investors access to curated investment themes backed by Schwab research. As a Java Developer on the Thematic Core Services team, you will play a key role in designing and delivering scalable, high-performing applications and services that support business growth and exceptional client experiences.\nThis role requires strong technical expertise, sound decision-making, and a passion for solving complex engineering challenges. You'll collaborate closely with architects, product teams, business partners, and fellow engineers to design, develop, test, and enhance modern microservices and API-driven solutions. Success in this role requires balancing technical excellence with collaboration, mentoring team members, optimizing application performance, and continuously improving development practices. Your contributions will directly influence the reliability, scalability, and evolution of Schwab's Thematic Investing platform.\nWhat you have\nRequired Qualifications\nBachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.\n8+ years of professional Java software development experience.\nStrong proficiency in Java SE/EE, Spring Framework, Hibernate, and RESTful web services.\nExperience designing and developing APIs and scalable backend applications.\nExperience working with relational databases such as MySQL, Oracle, or PostgreSQL.\nDemonstrated ability to apply object-oriented design principles, software design patterns, and analytical problem-solving to complex technical challenges.\nExperience collaborating across product, business analysis, quality assurance, and engineering teams in Agile or Scrum environments.\nAbility to communicate technical decisions clearly and contribute to secure, reliable, and maintainable software.\nPreferred Qualifications\nExperience with AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud.\nExperience with microservices architecture.\nKnowledge of Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps practices.\nExperience reviewing code, sharing engineering practices, and mentoring or developing other software professionals.\nFamiliarity with JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.\nAbility to evaluate emerging technologies and recommend improvements that support performance, reliability, scalability, and business outcomes.\nIn addition to the salary range, this role is eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities.\nWhat’s in it for you\nAt Schwab, you’re empowered to shape your future.
