Chemours is seeking a Chemical Process Engineer to join our growing Fluoromonomers team! This position will report directly to the Manufacturing Technology Manager at our Fayetteville, NC location.
The Chemical Process Engineer provides technical support to manufacturing operations to maintain production performance or restore process capability. Process engineers work closely with technology managers and operations to upgrade products and processes by implementing modifications ranging from incremental daily improvements to technology game changes.
The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Act as the chemical engineering resource for the Monomers area, providing technical support to maintain and improve safety, reliability, quality, environmental performance, and production capability.
- Provide day-to-day process engineering support, including process monitoring, data analysis, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and implementation of corrective actions to resolve operating issues and sustain performance.
- Own and monitor key process performance indicators, identify performance gaps, and lead efforts to improve process capability, capacity, yield, energy efficiency, and operating reliability.
- Lead and support Process Safety Management (PSM) activities including Process Hazard Analyses (PHA), Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA), Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR), relief system evaluations, Process Technology documentation, Mechanical Integrity activities, and closure of technical action items.
- Lead the technical aspects of Management of Change (MOC) activities, including hazard reviews, process design documentation updates, operating procedure revisions, startup planning, and organization readiness.
- Develop, maintain, and improve process documentation including operating procedures, engineering standards, process safety information, heat and material balances, and other technical records.
- Design, coordinate, execute, and evaluate plant trials and process tests to improve safety, product quality, environmental performance, reliability, and production costs.
- Support process control and automation improvements by working with operations, process control engineers, and project teams to improve operability, process stability, alarm management, and controller performance.
- Apply process engineering fundamentals, data analytics tools, and process simulation software to evaluate operating performance, troubleshoot issues, identify improvement opportunities, and support process optimization.
- Partner with operations, maintenance, and reliability organizations to investigate recurring equipment and process issues, develop sustainable solutions, and improve asset performance.
- Support environmental compliance activities, emissions reduction initiatives, permit-related process evaluations, and implementation of environmental improvement projects.
- Assist in training and developing operations and maintenance personnel through technical coaching, procedure development, and knowledge sharing.
- Provide process engineering leadership for capital projects from concept development through startup, including front-end loading, process design basis development, equipment specification, hazard reviews, commissioning, and startup support.
- Support the implementation of new process technologies, process improvements, and manufacturing capability upgrades through cross-functional project teams.
The following isrequiredfor this role:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Chemical Engineering from an ABET accredited school
- Demonstrated ability to apply technical knowledge to diagnose, troubleshoot, and solve problems
- Ability to plan, prioritize and manage multiple, complex, time-sensitive projects
- Ability to work in a team environment with high degree of initiative and self-motivation and flexibility to monitor and move projects forward quickly and safely
The following ispreferredfor this role:
- Experience in PSM-regulated chemical manufacturing environments
- Experience with process simulation software such as Aspen Plus or Aspen HYSYS
- Experience using process historian and data analytics systems such as SEEQ or IP.21.
- Experience with MOC, PHA, PSSR, LOPA, and root cause analysis methodologies
- Experience supporting fluorochemical, specialty chemical, or highly hazardous chemical processes
- Experience with process control systems and manufacturing automation
- Six Sigma Green Belt certification or higher
