From building intuitive AI web interfaces to writing Python for geoprocessing tools and AI agents, you’ll be exposed to the full development lifecycle and cutting-edge GIS solutions.\nResponsibilities\nBuild backend services that power geospatial processing, automation, and user-facing capabilities\nDevelop APIs, proxies, and integration services using Node.js and Python\nCreate and maintain backend tooling that extends ArcGIS Enterprise in containerized environments\nDevelop and maintain geoprocessing services, automation scripts, and operational workflows\nBuild connectors and ingestion pipelines across diverse enterprise data sources\nSupport deployments across cloud-native and on-prem environments\nImprove reliability and performance through API design, testing, monitoring, and observability\nCollaborate with the platform, DevOps, and GIS teams to translate requirements into\nproduction solutions\nOther duties as assigned\nQualifications\nBachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, GIS, or related technical field (or equivalent practical experience)\n5+ years of industry experience as a backend software engineer or equivalent practical experience\nHands-on experience developing backend services using:Python\nJavaScript / Node.js\nJava (for enterprise integrations and services)\nExperience designing and building REST APIs and service-based architectures\nExperience extending or integrating with ArcGIS Enterprise or similar enterprise geospatial platforms\nExperience working in containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes, or similar)\n\nActive or Current (within two years of active) Top Secret Security Clearance with SCI eligibility\nPreferred Qualifications:\nMaster’s in computer science, Mathematics, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), or STEM-related field\nEsri certification\nCompTIA Security + certification\nExperience with containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes\nFamiliarity with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP)\nExperience with monitoring, logging, and observability tools\nExposure to DevSecOps practices and secure development pipelines\nExperience with ArcGIS Enterprise SDKs, automation frameworks, or platform extensions\nExperience building services for geospatial analysis, data pipelines, or map services\nFamiliarity with enterprise authentication, proxies, and secure service architectures\nExperience with relational and spatial databases (PostgreSQL/PostGIS, SQL Server, etc.)\nExposure to event-driven architectures, batch processing, or distributed data workflows\n\nKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities:\nAbility to work independently and yet be effective within a team setting\nMust be capable of managing multiple efforts with time-related constraints in a fast-paced contracting environment\nDemonstrated ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with diverse internal and external stakeholder groups and individuals\nFriendly presence, helpful attitude, good interpersonal skills, and ability to work well with others.\nExcellent skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and other Office applications\nProficient with Microsoft Office Applications, and experience working in a home office setting, as well as the ability to train end users on frequently asked technical issues.\nAbility to provide technical assistance and support over the phone; good phone skills, professional demeanor, and previous customer service experience strongly desired.\nGood problem-solving skills; ability to visualize a problem/situation and think abstractly to solve it\nFamiliarity with:Geoprocessing workflows\nProxies and middleware services\nAutomation of GIS or data processing tasks\n\nSolid fundamentals in:API design\nSoftware/system design\nTesting and debugging distributed services\n\nStrong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills\nHow you’ll grow\nAt Chenega MIOS, our professional development plan focuses on helping our team members at every level of their careers to identify and use their strengths to do their best work every day.
