This position will provide a range of client-focused interventions for children with speech difficulties and their families. Working in collaboration with Speech-Language Pathologists, the CDA will implement individual and group treatment plans, develop therapy materials, and independently lead sessions aligned with established goals. This role offers the opportunity to work in a variety of settings including directly in schools, contributing to the care of children and youth with speech needs across the region. As part of CHEO, a leading pediatric health and research centre, the CDA will be part of a collaborative and supportive team dedicated to improving access to high-quality care for children and families.\nMAIN RESPONSIBILITIES\nCollaborate in the planning and implementation of individual and group treatment programs or protocols developed with the Speech-Language Pathologists (S-LP)\n\nConduct informal screening of articulation and basic language skills as necessary, and discuss with S-LP.\n\nDocument student progress towards achieving treatment goals as stated in the treatment program and discusses this information with the S-LP.\n\nAttend school program team planning and goal review meetings with the S-LP when necessary to report on the student’s progress with school team and parents.\n\nAttend program based meetings.\n\nMaintain confidentiality in accordance with organizational polices and procedures related to privacy.\n\nFollow organizational policies and procedures related to safety, including reporting and follow-up for incidents/accidents and near misses, identification and management of risks and emergency procedures.\n\nFollow routine precautions for infection prevention and control including proper hand hygiene.\n\nParticipates in education and improvement activities related to safety.\n\nFollows standards of practice regarding safe application of protocols and treatment plans for clients.\n\nAdapts speech materials in a creative manner to meet the needs and developmental levels of students from JK to High School.\n\nIndependently develop treatment activities and make a plan based on goals set out by the S-LP.\n\nPerform other related duties as assigned by supervisor\n\nQUALIFICATIONS\nOne (1) year post graduate Community College Communicative Disorders Assistant Diploma (Essential)\n\nMinimum two (2) years’ experience with school population (Preferred)\n\nExperience working with and supporting children and youth in developmental education settings with complex health profiles (Essential)\n\nPrior experience working in school-based rehabilitation services (Preferred)\n\nCurrent First Aid/CPR Certification (Preferred)\n\nKnowledge of the Guidelines for Supportive Personnel as outlined by the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO) (Essential)\n\nEligible for membership with the Communicative Disorders Assistant Association of Canada (CDAAC) (Preferred)\n\nStrong skills related to word processing, and advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (including Excel, PowerPoint, Word) (Essential)\n\nExcellent time management and organizational skills (Essential)\n\nSensitivity to people of different cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds (Essential)\n\nHighly level of accuracy and attention to detail (Essential)\n\nExcellent communication and interpersonal skills (Essential)\n\nAble to work independently and as part of a team (Essential)\n\nFlexible hours including evening, weekend, and holiday work may be required (Essential).\n\nValid Ontario’s driver’s license, access to a vehicle, and the ability and willingness to travel from site to site and to multiple community-based visits on a daily basis is required and as assigned.
