You will strengthen your software engineering fundamentals, gain hands-on experience building AI-powered products, and contribute to features used by teams across Chewy.\nWhat You’ll Do\nDevelop, test, and maintain scoped features across user interfaces, backend services, and APIs with guidance from experienced engineers.\nHelp build AI-powered experiences for knowledge discovery, analytics, and workflow automation.\nIntegrate AI services and enterprise APIs using established patterns for security, human review, and reliable error handling.\nEmbrace a builder’s mindset: test ideas by building-make, break, and rebuild in pursuit of meaningful, intelligent systems. Fail fast and iterate continuously, incorporating guidance and feedback from experienced engineers.\nUse AI-assisted development tools for coding, testing, debugging, and documentation while reviewing, understanding, and testing generated outputs.\nHelp evaluate AI features using representative tasks, identify inaccurate or unexpected results, and suggest improvements.\nCollaborate with engineers and product partners to understand requirements, communicate progress, and apply feedback from code reviews.\nHelp monitor and troubleshoot applications, building familiarity with production systems and reliable software delivery.\nWhat You’ll Need\nBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.\n1-2 years of software development experience; internships and co-ops count.\nProficiency in at least one programming language, such as Python, Java, or TypeScript, and familiarity with APIs and SQL or NoSQL databases.\nUnderstanding of software engineering fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, version control, testing, and debugging.\nHands-on use of AI-assisted development tools through work, coursework, or personal projects, with examples of how you reviewed, tested, and improved generated code.\nHands-on experience building AI-powered systems through work, coursework, or personal projects, and the curiosity to find and frame your own problems to solve.\nAwareness of AI limitations, including inaccurate outputs, and the importance of validating results and protecting sensitive information.\nAbility to complete well-defined tasks with guidance, ask clear questions, incorporate feedback, and collaborate with teammates.\nBonus Qualifications\nExperience developing user interfaces with React and TypeScript, or a comparable frontend framework.\nCoursework or projects involving language model APIs, AI-powered applications, or workflow automation.\nFamiliarity with prompting, retrieval-augmented generation, tool calling, or evaluating AI-generated responses.\nExposure to cloud platforms, CI/CD pipelines, containers, or application monitoring.\nExperience with data processing or analytics, or an interest in supply chain, operations, or enterprise software.\nSuccess in This Role\nYou deliver well-tested, scoped features with guidance and build increasing independence. You demonstrate an AI-first mindset through hands-on experimentation, thoughtful validation, and practical improvements to your work while strengthening your software engineering fundamentals.\nThe base salary range for this role is $92,500 - $160,000.00.The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to the candidate’s relevant experience, education, and work location. In addition, this position is eligible for 401k and a new hire and annual equity grant.
