ChristianaCare will not sponsor applicants for this position for an employment visa now or in the future.\nChristianaCare is currently recruiting for a Full-time Specimen Processing Technician to work in the General Laboratory. Midnight Shift. This position requires every other weekend and 2-3 holidays per year.\nPRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:\nSorts laboratory specimens and request slips for the accuracy of test orders and correct specimen types.\nInput test orders in Lab Information System (LIS). Prints and properly affixes identification labels to all incoming patient specimens. Prioritizes incoming work, ensuring samples for stat testing are delivered to the appropriate laboratory section to maintain stated turnaround times.\nProcess multiple specimens from invasive procedures with drug administering on a series of time intervals.\nPrepares and send out specimens to national reference labs and charge them according to the established guidelines.\nFollows established protocols for receiving Christiana Care phlebotomy collected specimens, including reconciliation of tracking slips from other Christiana Care laboratories and outreach sites.\nFollows established protocol for verification of PowerChart requisition/specimen match for Emergency Department and in-house nurse collected samples. Utilizes patient demographic information such as name, date of birth, medical record number, financial number, physician, and encounter to ensure accurate identification.\nRegisters outpatient drop-off samples accurately in Soarian. Selects the correct encounter and orders laboratory tests accurately in the LIS. Accurately completes agency registrations for drop-off samples. \nPerforms audit daily to ensure the accuracy of test orders.\nHandles all telephone requests in a courteous manner. When appropriate, calls provider/nursing unit to clarify any confusion or question regarding requisitions or samples received. Seeks technical guidance from supervisor or laboratory Medical Laboratory Scientists (MLS) when needed.\nFollows all established LIS downtime procedures.\nMaintains equipment and supplies.\nPerforms assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices; reports to supervisor, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients and visitors.\nPerforms other related duties as required.\nMINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:\nHigh School diploma required.\nPrevious specimen processing experience preferred.\nAn equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.\nKNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:\nKnowledge of specimen processing\nKnowledge of Microsoft applications\nKnowledge of office equipment and machines\nKnowledge of a keyboard (typing or computer)\nAttention to detail and ability to maintain focus despite distractions.\nAbility to prioritize multiple tasks to support testing of specimens.\nAbility to utilize information to accurately identify patient and match specimen with request.\nAbility to verbally communicate in a clear and understanding manner.\nAbility to handle all telephone requests courteously and efficiently.\nAbility to follow written and verbal procedures.\nKnowledge of safety procedures.\nWhen you become an employee at ChristianaCare, you are joining a robust healthcare organization that truly cares about their patients and their caregivers.
