The Opportunity

Chubb requires an experienced Engineer to provide professional engineering advice to our Natural Natural Resources & Construction underwriting and claims teams, with the aim of improving underwriting profitability and assisting in portfolio development and new business opportunities. Working with underwriters and interacting with clients and brokers, this role will focus on business written within Continental Europe, Middle East and North Africa (CEMENA).

The role is based in Paris (France), supporting the CEMENA region reporting to the Regional Head of Technical Lines Risk Engineering for CEMENA.

The main responsibility is to provide timely succinct and technically advanced engineering advice to underwriters and claims with regard to technical risks of erection, construction and operation of large conventional power plants, in compliance with CHUBB’s Engineering processes and best practices.

Your Responsibilities for this role may include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide, using effective and objective communication, risk management advice derived from evaluation of risk exposure(s) including the provision and setting of loss estimates.
  • Develop and implement tools based on knowledge, efficiency and cost effectiveness for delivering best possible solutions for control and reduction of financial risk to CHUBB.
  • Development and maintain continuous professional engineering knowledge and resource within areas of expertise.
  • Develop and improve communication effectiveness and management relationships to maintain CHUBB’s credibility as the leading professional and ethical insurer to clients, brokers, and the insurance market.
  • Develop and prioritise objectives for performing visits within technical risks management programmes in association with underwriters and the insureds’ management and brokers.
  • Develop a continuous improvement philosophy in respect of the team and workflow management.
  • Develop and broadening knowledge outside of core expertise enabling and assisting the underwriting and claims functions through education and training.

What skills & experience are required?

  • A qualified engineer, preferably holding a degree in Mechanical Engineering, and with a minimum of ten years hands-on engineering experience gained primarily in commissioning and/or operation of large conventional power plants, with progressive responsibility.
  • Experience should include commissioning and management gained from a broad spectrum of technologies and projects.
  • Insurance engineering experience gained with a recognised lead insurer or reinsurer would be beneficial.
  • Excellent communication and negotiating skills with ability to work both on own initiative and as an effective team member.
  • PC literate with a good working knowledge of Office software suite.
  • Enjoy facing new challenges including working with large multi-national clients, brokers, claims adjusters and others.
  • Team player with flexible, communicative, and personable approach to work.
  • Keen inquisitive interest in engineering subjects and appreciative of the business environment/ethics.
  • The main language for this role shall be English but others such as French, German, Spanish, Italian, Turkish are beneficial.
