Together, we’ll push boundaries and go above what’s expected of us to meet the challenges of tomorrow\nThis role can be based in our Ottawa or Mississauga office.\nCIMA+ is presently seeking an Intermediate Electrical Substation Technician / Technologist. Working on LDC and generation projects, the candidate will be responsible for producing schematics and plans for substations and generation facilities. Familiarity with electrical construction standards and design practices is essential for this position. Design work will be performed primarily from home office, with the possibility of travelling from time to time outside of home office area and will involve all aspects of electrical planning and design.\nResponsibilities:\nDevelop preliminary and detailed design drawings for substations or generation facilities;\nPerform site visits to validate scope requirements and determine existing assets condition, and prepare site survey reports;\nEnsure design work conforms to all applicable codes and client standards;\nProduce bills of materials and enter material requisitions;\nPerform ampacity and voltage drop calculations and other system calculations;\nPerform material and labour cost estimates;\nCirculate proposed design drawings to Client for review and provide revisions as required;\nCoordinate with other disciplines and stakeholders either internal or external;\nComplete applications for AHJ / municipal construction permits;\nPrepare technical input for reports, specifications, proposals, project schedules and cost estimates;\nAssist senior staff with responding to Client requirements;\nMentor junior staff;\nDevelop and improve CAD and quality standards as part of an ISO 9001 quality management system;\nPrepare as-built construction drawings;\nReport regularly to the project management for project status;\nPerform and assist with additional duties and tasks based on in project requirements.\n Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; knowledge of French is an asset;\nA post-secondary degree or diploma in electrical technology (focused on Power Distribution System is preferred). We will consider a combination of education and experience in performing similar work equivalent to our requirements;\nOver 7 years of experience in electrical layout in the energy sector, including single line diagrams, low and medium voltage layouts, equipment selection;\nFamiliarity with cable routing, bus bar configurations, detailed design of conduit & tray systems, cable terminations and supports, etc.; \nExperience working in existing and new substations\nWorking knowledge of the CEC, IEEE standards, typical equipment dimension, connection details;\nKnowledge on principles and practices of the electrical construction and cost estimates;\nWorking knowledge of CAD and other design software (e.g., AutoCad, MicroStation);\nEquipment commissioning and grounding grid testing experience is an asset;\nValid provincial driver’s license;\nExcellent problem solving and multitasking skills;\nClient focused and attention to detail, eager to learn, self-motivated;\nCapability to work independently and in a team;\nFlexibility to respond to short notice assignments and respond to project-based Client demands.\n At CIMA+, we recognize the richness and diversity of each individual’s experience.
