Pay rate is $18 per hour.\nThe On-Call Cook is responsible for preparing nutritious, appealing meals and snacks for residents of a senior living community. This position provides coverage for planned and unplanned staffing needs, including employee absences, vacations, leaves of absence, and call-offs. The On-Call Cook ensures meals are prepared in accordance with menu plans, resident dietary requirements, food safety regulations, and company standards while promoting a positive dining experience for residents.\nESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSBILITIES:\nFood Preparation and Service\nPrepare and cook meals, snacks, and beverages according to approved menus, recipes, and portion guidelines. \nEnsure meals are served on time and at proper temperatures. \nFollow physician-ordered diets, texture modifications, and special dietary restrictions. \nMonitor food quality, appearance, and taste to ensure resident satisfaction. \nAssist with meal service and accommodate reasonable resident requests when appropriate. \nMaintain a welcoming and resident-focused dining experience. \nKitchen Operations\nMaintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen environment. \nFollow all local, state, and federal food safety and sanitation regulations. \nProperly label, date, store, and rotate food items using First In, First Out (FIFO) procedures. \nClean and sanitize food preparation areas, kitchen equipment, refrigerators, freezers, and storage areas. \nEnsure proper operation and safe use of kitchen equipment. \nReport equipment malfunctions, safety concerns, and supply shortages promptly. \nResident Care and Teamwork\nDemonstrate respect, patience, and professionalism when interacting with residents, families, and staff. \nCommunicate effectively with caregivers, medication technicians, management, and other team members regarding resident dietary needs. \nSupport community events, special meals, and holiday celebrations as needed. \nMaintain resident confidentiality in accordance with company policies and applicable laws. \nCompliance and Safety\nFollow all company policies and procedures. \nAdhere to infection control practices and workplace safety standards. \nParticipate in required training and meetings. \nRespond appropriately during emergencies according to facility procedures.\nPerform other duties as assigned.\nRequirements\n· High School diploma or equivalent, required\n· Certificate in food preparation and/or culinary degree, preferred\n· Prior experience working in food service, preferred\n· Each employee must have a physical examination and tuberculin test performed by a physician. The tests are to be completed with results within seven (7) days after hire, unless regulations stipulate completion before employment. If the exams are not completed within this timeframe, the employee will be placed on suspension until they are completed.\n· The Department of Social Services (DSS) licensing agency requires that LiveScan (fingerprinting) be completed on criminal convictions and be submitted for the purpose of conducting a criminal record review. The DDS will issue an approval or denial according to the criminal clearance reports. Approval must be obtained in order to retain employment.\n· All employees are required to complete a drug screening\n· All employees must keep their FIRST-AID certification current\nSKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:\n· Demonstrates respect, patience, and compassion when interacting with residents.\n· Maintains a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen environment.\n· Adheres to all food safety, infection control, and regulatory standards.\n· Provides exceptional customer service and supports resident satisfaction.\n· Demonstrates reliability, teamwork, and professionalism.\n· Supports the community's mission of providing quality care and services to seniors.\n· Mental ability: must be able to handle stress well, stay calm under pressure.
