You will contribute to distributed, highly available microservice architectures and drive technical decisions within the scope of your owned services. You will focus on improving system performance, scalability, reliability, and observability, while leveraging AI technologies to accelerate team productivity. You will collaborate closely with Product Management and SRE/DevOps teams, debug complex production issues, and lead by example in code quality and operational excellence.\nKey Responsibilities\nDesign, implement, deliver, and maintain software features and product improvements end-to-end with minimal supervision.\n\nContribute to distributed, highly available microservice architectures.\n\nDrive technical decisions within the scope of owned services or components.\n\nImprove system performance, scalability, reliability, and observability.\n\nLead by example in code quality, testing, and operational excellence.\n\nDebug complex production issues and contribute to incident resolution and postmortems.\n\nLeverage AI technologies (e.g., Copilot, Cursor, Codex) to accelerate team productivity and feature delivery.\n\nHelp lead the operational side of our systems and services.\n\nCollaborate closely with engineers, product management, and SRE/DevOps teams.\n\nMentor junior and mid-level engineers through code reviews and technical discussions.\n\nMinimum Qualifications\nBachelor’s or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.\n\n5+ years of professional experience in software development.\n\nExperience in building and maintaining backend services in production environments.\n\nStrong knowledge of software development and architecture concepts with a willingness to learn new technologies quickly.\n\nPreferred Qualifications\nStrong experience in Java system development; Node.js, JavaScript, and Python are a plus.\n\nFamiliarity with web application frameworks and persistence technologies such as Spring, PostgreSQL, MySQL, and Kafka.\n\nFamiliarity with Git, DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and continuous delivery.\n\nFamiliarity with AI coding tools (e.g., Codex, Cursor, Copilot).\n\nProven ability to debug and resolve complex production issues.\n\nAbility to apply creative skills to complex problems.\n\nFlexible, thrives in diverse team environments, and communicates clearly and precisely.\n\nStrong attention to detail and a commitment to continuous learning and quality results.\n\nCollab Hiring\nWhy Cisco?\nAt Cisco, we’re revolutionizing how data and infrastructure connect and protect organizations in the AI era - and beyond.
