We design high-performance services that establish trust and enforce authorization across interconnected systems, leveraging attribute-based and role-based access control (ABAC/RBAC) to support complex enterprise environments.\nWith a substantial C++ codebase and an evolving Go-based, cloud-native architecture, our team offers a unique opportunity to work on deep architectural challenges, influence long-term technical direction, and build foundational systems serving some of the world’s largest enterprises.\nYour Impact\nAs a Senior Software Engineer on the Splunk Platform Authorization team, you’ll help shape the architecture of systems that enable secure, high-performance authorization across Splunk’s enterprise platform. You’ll take ownership of technically complex initiatives, make critical design decisions, and work across engineering teams to deliver scalable, reliable solutions. This is a hands-on technical leadership opportunity where you’ll influence long-term platform architecture while contributing directly to the development and evolution of our core systems. \nArchitect, design, and develop high-performance backend services using C++, while contributing to Go-based services and the modernization of Splunk’s core platform.\nLead technical design discussions and make architectural decisions involving distributed systems, scalability, performance, reliability, and service-to-service trust.\nOwn complex engineering initiatives from design through execution, breaking down large projects, identifying opportunities for parallel development, and coordinating work across engineers.\nImprove and modernize large-scale C++ infrastructure, addressing architectural complexity, technical debt, and the transition toward cloud-native and Kubernetes-based services.\nProvide technical guidance through design and code reviews, collaborate across teams, and contribute to production reliability, troubleshooting, and operational support.\nMinimum Qualifications\nBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field with 7+ years of relevant experience; or a Master’s degree with 4+ years of relevant experience; or a PhD with 1+ year of relevant experience.\nSoftware development experience in C++, including designing, maintaining, or enhancing complex backend systems.\nExperience designing and developing distributed systems or large-scale backend services in production environments.\nPrior experience in software architecture, technical design, and translating complex requirements into scalable engineering solutions.\nExperience leading technical initiatives, coordinating implementation across engineers, and driving projects from design through delivery.\nPreferred Qualifications\nExperience with Go and cloud-native infrastructure, including Kubernetes, containers, or microservices.\nExperience designing high-performance, highly available systems operating at enterprise scale.\nUnderstanding of identity and access management, authentication, authorization, RBAC/ABAC, or service-to-service trust models.\nExperience modernizing large legacy codebases, addressing architectural complexity, and improving system reliability and performance.\nExperience with observability platforms, enterprise infrastructure, security systems, or highly distributed cloud services.\nWhy Cisco?\nAt Cisco, we’re revolutionizing how data and infrastructure connect and protect organizations in the AI era - and beyond. For quota-based incentive pay, Cisco typically pays as follows:\n.75% of incentive target for each 1% of revenue attainment up to 50% of quota;\n\n1.5% of incentive target for each 1% of attainment between 50% and 75%;\n\n1% of incentive target for each 1% of attainment between 75% and 100%; and\n\nOnce performance exceeds 100% attainment, incentive rates are at or above 1% for each 1% of attainment with no cap on incentive compensation.\n\nFor non-quota-based sales performance elements such as strategic sales objectives, Cisco may pay 0% up to 125% of target.
