Working with both role-based and attribute-based access control (RBAC/ABAC), we solve challenging engineering problems involving distributed systems, service-to-service communication, and authorization enforcement at scale.\nYou’ll join a collaborative engineering organization tackling complex architectural challenges, modernizing established systems, and building the foundational services that support some of the world’s largest enterprises. \nYour Impact\nAs a Software Engineer on the Splunk Platform Authorization team, you’ll build and maintain backend services that power secure, reliable access across complex enterprise environments. You’ll work with experienced engineers to implement technical solutions, solve challenging problems, and improve the performance and reliability of our core platform. You’ll have the opportunity to take ownership of meaningful engineering work while expanding your expertise in distributed systems and cloud-native technologies. \nDevelop and maintain backend services using Go, supporting scalable authorization and service-to-service communication across Splunk’s platform.\nTranslate technical designs into high-quality, maintainable code, independently driving implementation while collaborating through design discussions and code reviews.\nInvestigate and resolve production issues, improve system performance and reliability, and address technical debt within complex backend systems.\nContribute to the modernization of established C++ services and the evolution of distributed infrastructure, including Kubernetes-based environments.\nCollaborate with engineering teams, share technical knowledge, and participate in operational support and on-call rotations following onboarding.\nMinimum Qualifications\nBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field with 5+ years of relevant experience or equivalent experience; or a Master’s degree with 3+ years of equivalent experience or related expereince; or a PhD in a related field or requivalent experience. \nProfessional software development experience building and maintaining backend services using Go.\nExperience developing, troubleshooting, and maintaining backend applications or services in complex production environments.\nExperience developing and maintaining software code, participating in code reviews, and contributing to software development projects within an engineering team.\nPreferred Qualifications\nExperience developing or maintaining software in C++ or working with large, established codebases.\nFamiliarity with distributed systems, microservices, Kubernetes, or cloud-native infrastructure.\nUnderstanding of authentication, authorization, identity and access management, or RBAC/ABAC concepts.\nExperience working with high-performance, high-availability services in large-scale enterprise or cloud environments.\nExperience diagnosing production issues, improving system reliability, or participating in on-call operations.\nWhy Cisco?\nAt Cisco, we’re revolutionizing how data and infrastructure connect and protect organizations in the AI era - and beyond.
