Citi is looking for a Senior Sanctions Operations Analyst to coordinate and deliver sanctions screening operations across Latin America, playing a central role in protecting the firm from regulatory and financial crime risk. Working within a focused team of six, you will combine hands-on alert management with team coordination responsibilities, ensuring cases are assessed, prioritized, and resolved within defined service levels. This role carries real decision-making authority and provides cross-regional reach, supporting operations across the Americas and EMEA when needed.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate the daily workload of the sanctions operations team to ensure all alerts are triaged, prioritized, and resolved within established service level agreements.
- Review and disposition sanctions screening alerts generated during account opening, transaction processing, and account maintenance, making escalation or closure decisions with accountability.
- Assess customer and transaction activity against regulatory sanctions lists, identifying potential links to sanctioned individuals, money laundering, or terrorist financing.
- Conduct investigations using internal systems, commercial databases, and open-source research, and compile findings into clear records for compliance and senior management review.
- Monitor adherence to Citi's global sanctions policy and procedures, staying current on regulatory changes, enforcement trends, and emerging risk typologies.
- Coordinate with compliance, business, and cross-regional teams across Latin America, North America, and EMEA to raise awareness of sanctions risks and drive timely remedial action.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of the sanctions operations framework by recommending updates to procedures, policies, and reference materials.
- Support internal audit and regulatory exam activity by tracking remedial actions and ensuring front-line teams meet required compliance standards.
Required qualifications & skills
- At least 3 years of experience in banking, with a background in compliance, financial crime, legal, or a related control function.
- Solid knowledge of AML and sanctions regulations, risk typologies, and compliance frameworks applicable to financial services.
- Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities under time pressure, with strong attention to detail and sound analytical judgement.
- Advanced bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish, with the ability to communicate clearly across international teams and stakeholders.
- Strong coordination and organizational skills, with the ability to manage team workflows and maintain performance across a high-volume operational environment.
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, or equivalent experience in compliance, legal, or a control-related function within a financial institution or regulatory body.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, for reporting, documentation, and stakeholder communication.
Beneficial skills & qualifications
- Familiarity with sanctions screening tools, case management platforms, or financial crime investigation systems.
- English language advanced skills to support broader regional communication.
- Experience working across multiple geographies or time zones in an operations or compliance capacity.
