A Code Compliance Supervisor position is available with the City of Fort Worth Code Compliance, Division of Animal Care and Control at Henry’s Shelter. This position will focus on overseeing the daily operations of the animal shelter while supporting the care, safety, and well-being of shelter animals in addition to providing support to the staff. The Animal Shelter Supervisor will provide leadership and direction to shelter staff, volunteers, fosters, and community partners while ensuring that shelter policies, procedures, and animal care standards are consistently followed.

Our Animal Care and Control department relies on hundreds of dedicated staff, volunteers, fosters, and community partners who work together to provide compassionate care and support for animals in our community. As our shelter continues to grow, we are seeking an experienced and motivated individual who can lead shelter operations, strengthen team performance, promote excellent animal care, and help create a safe, organized, and positive environment for both animals and people.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Valid Texas driver's license
  • High school diploma or G.E.D. supplemented by specialized training in one or more of the following fields: animal control, code compliance or enforcement, or building/construction trades
  • Four (4) years of experience in one or more of the following disciplines: animal control/field operations, code compliance (direct code enforcement of field inspection), building or construction trades, zoning, or related heavy equipment operations, or operating motorized heavy equipment including one year of administrative and supervisory experience
  • Must be able to obtain an Animal Control Officer Basic Certification through the Texas Department of State Health Services within six (6) months of hire
  • Must pass Drug Screen and Physical

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two (2) years of municipal/city animal shelter experience
  • Knowledge of animal behavior and animal health knowledge
  • Bilingual skills

The Animal Shelter Supervisor job responsibilities include:

  • Supervises staff, which includes reviewing time, prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff is trained; ensuring employees follow policies and procedures; maintaining a healthy and safe working environment; and, making hiring, termination, and disciplinary decisions or recommendations
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Responds to inquiries and complaints; provides information to neighborhood associations and community members; responds to internal and external customer service requests; provides support for local, state and federal enforcement agencies; and works closely with other departments to provide outstanding customer service
  • Reviews and analyzes reports to develop new programs and processes to increase departmental/program efficiency and effectiveness.  Develops educational and training programs; and creates documents for external dissemination to promote program engagement

Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling and lifting; depending on assignment. Incumbents may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting and intense noises.

When assigned to Animal Care & Control: Medium work - Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.
