The City of New York is the municipal government of the largest city in the United States, formed in its present five-borough shape by the consolidation of 1898. It employs several hundred thousand people across more than eighty agencies covering education, policing, fire and emergency services, health and hospitals, sanitation, transport, housing, parks, social services and technology, making it one of the largest single employers in the country.
