It employs several hundred thousand people across more than eighty agencies covering education, policing, fire and emergency services, health and hospitals, sanitation, transport, housing, parks, social services and technology, making it one of the largest single employers in the country. Its Office of Technology and Innovation runs the digital services, data platforms and cybersecurity for those agencies, and the city recruits continuously across engineering, analysis, clinical, administrative and field roles.
