Join us in shaping the future of public transport by driving the next phase of CitySwift’s growth.\nAbout the Role \nAs a Data Engineer on the Engine team, you will play a pivotal role in building and evolving CitySwift’s core data processing engine. You will work within a team responsible for ingesting, cleaning, and joining high-velocity transport data, processing over 20 million vehicle pings daily and matching demand to telemetry every 22 seconds. Your work will directly power our automated pipelines, data validation algorithms, and geospatial mapping tools, ensuring high data integrity across billions of passenger journeys.\nKey responsibilities\nDesign, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines that ingest and process multi-source transport datasets (vehicle telemetry, schedule data, passenger ticketing/APC demand, and geospatial topology).\nDevelop and refine automated data cleaning, validation, and deduplication logic to maintain high data integrity across raw, noisy datasets.\nOptimise core data processing pipelines for geospatial mapping, corridor-level analysis, and real-time/batch data enrichment.\nSupport pipeline management, job monitoring, automated testing, and error handling to guarantee reliable daily processing for downstream products (Explore, Evolve, Discover).\nCollaborate closely with data scientists, software engineers, and product teams to translate domain algorithms and complex transportation logic into efficient engine code.\nTroubleshoot complex data processing issues, assist in root-cause analysis, and streamline data ingestion pipelines.\nContinuously learn and adopt new technologies, distributed tools, and data engineering best practices as our platform scales.\nDesired Qualifications\n3+ years of professional experience in data engineering or a closely related field.\nExperience designing, developing, or maintaining data pipelines, ETL/ELT processes, or data-driven systems.\nSolid understanding of data modeling, data warehousing concepts, and data quality principles.\nExperience working with cloud-based data platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform).\nAdvanced SQL capabilities with deep experience in data modeling, query performance tuning, and schema design across relational, NoSQL, and cloud data warehouses (Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, MySQL, MongoDB).\nProficiency in programming languages such as Python or Java.\nFamiliarity with modern data technologies (e.g., Spark, Airflow, dbt, Kafka, or similar) is a plus.\nStrong problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team.\nGood communication skills and a willingness to learn, ask questions, and grow within the role.\nWe value, recognise and reward our people\nA role with real scope, where your impact is visible, your salary is reviewed as we grow, and there are career progression opportunities as the company scales and internationalises. \nComprehensive health and life insurance through Laya Healthcare in Ireland and Aviva in the UK.\nFlexible working with hybrid working as the default in Ireland, core hours of 10am to 4pm, remote options depending on role and a work abroad programme of up to 6 weeks.\n25 days annual leave from day one, increasing by half a day per year of service, plus company days off, a half day before public holidays and an end of year shutdown.\nEnhanced family leave, including 6 months fully paid maternity leave and 3 weeks paid paternity leave after 18 months’ service (and wedding leave!)\nAnd on top of all of this, the usuals done well.
