This is a foundational hire for the legal and compliance team of a rapidly growing fintech, and it comes with built-in opportunity for professional growth and development.\nThis will be a broad-based role, focused primarily on regulatory and operational matters, along with commercial contracting support. This is an ideal opportunity for a rock-solid financial services regulatory attorney with a desire to become an in-house generalist. It could also be a great match for a fintech generalist that wants to develop subject matter expertise in the lending space.\nKey Responsibilities:\nServe as an in-house subject matter expert on the consumer and small business lending regulations, tracking relevant changes and directives that may impact the company or our partners.\n\nTake a lead role in establishing regulatory requirements for new product development and implementation.\n\nSupport the ClarityPay team with accurate and pragmatic regulatory advice and in-depth legal risk assessments relevant to the company’s development and launch of new financial products.\n\nSupport compliance and customer service teams on the resolution of inquiries and complaints from customers and regulators.\n\nSupport compliance, business development, customer service, and other internal stakeholders in fielding legal and regulatory questions.\n\nProvide legal support for ClarityPay’s Compliance and Operational Risk Program.\n\nSupport commercial contracting efforts with merchants and vendors.\n\nCollaborate on the development and improvement of internal policies, procedures, and processes.\n\nProject-manage various key legal and compliance projects.\n\nSupport or own other legal projects as determined by the Chief Legal & Compliance Officer.\n\nQualifications:\n· JD from a top tier law school and a license to practice in good standing in primary state of residence.\n· 7+ years total legal experience.\n· At least 2 years of law firm experience.\n· Deep experience advising clients on consumer financial services matters.\n· Contract drafting and negotiation experience.\n· Strong legal research skills.\n· Strong written and verbal communication skills.\n· Ability to learn and leverage new technology quickly and effectively, including hands-on experience leveraging modern AI tools for legal work.\nBonus Points:\n· Prior experience in fintech lending.\n· Broad legal experience covering regulatory, transactional, and dispute resolution matters.\n· Prior experience performing in-depth legal risk assessments on consumer financial services regulations.\n· Experience supporting the compliance function of a consumer lender or lending platform.\n· Experience working with regulators to quickly and effectively resolve inquiries, complaints, or information requests.\nWhat We Offer:\nCompetitive compensation and equity package.\n\nComprehensive benefits (medical, dental, vision).\n\nCollaborative office culture with a strong product mindset.\n\nOpportunities to grow, lead, and shape the future of consumer finance.\n\n401k program with employer match.\n\nRole Details:\nPreference for candidates near our headquarters in New York, NY or the Minneapolis/St. Paul metropolitan area.\n\nLimited travel is expected, primarily for corporate gatherings and industry conferences.\n\nThis role will report to the Chief Legal & Compliance Officer.\n\nSalary Range: $180,000 to $220,000 per year.\nSalary range is an approximation and will depend on market data applied to factors like the candidate’s skills and experience, geographic location, and compensation/equity mix.\nAbout Us:\nAt ClarityPay, we're redefining consumer finance with smart, adaptive lending solutions that make financial clarity and affordable credit accessible to all.
