Pre-Commissioning Engineer

Clean Harbors, is looking for a Pre-Commissioning Engineer to join their team! This is a specialized engineering and field-execution role responsible for developing, hydraulically modeling, and overseeing temporary flushing and filtration systems used to prepare data-center water systems for commissioning and turnover. The Pre-Commissioning Engineer will take project drawings, specifications, and system information and convert them into a safe, technically validated, and executable flushing strategy. This includes determining flushing circuits and required flow rates, performing hydraulic modeling, sizing temporary pumps and equipment, developing execution plans, and traveling to project sites to verify actual system performance.

This position is ideal for an engineer who combines strong hydraulic analysis with practical mechanical aptitude and enjoys solving problems in the field.

Position can sit anywhere within the United States.

Responsibilities

• Ensures Health and Safety is the number one priority by complying with all safe work practices, policies, and processes and acting in a safe manner at all times.
• Develop flushing circuits, system boundaries, bypass arrangements, and flushing sequences. Implementation and execution of assembled flushing plans.
• Review P&IDs, mechanical drawings, BIM information, equipment schedules, specifications, and system design criteria. Calculate system volumes, required flow rates, pipe velocities, pressure losses, differential pressures, and system resistance.
• Determine temporary pumping and filtration requirements, circuit boundaries, flow paths, temporary connections, instrumentation locations, bypasses, water requirements, and applicable flow, pressure, velocity, filtration, and cleanliness acceptance criteria.
• Participate in customer technical meetings, drawing reviews, constructability reviews, site walks, equipment planning, scheduling, and project risk reviews.
• Maintain technical ownership of the hydraulic performance of the flushing system while working collaboratively with project management and field.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Civil, Industrial, Construction Engineering or a closely related discipline.
• 3-5 years' relevant experience.
• Experience with Pipe Flow Expert, AFT Fathom, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, or similar engineering/construction software is preferred.
• Understanding of pump curves, system curves, and pump operating points.
• Ability to calculate flow, pipe velocity, pressure loss, and system resistance.
• Ability to read and interpret P&IDs and mechanical construction drawings.
• Demonstrated understanding of fluid mechanics, piping hydraulics, centrifugal pumps, and mechanical systems.
• Strong written and verbal technical communication skills.
• Ability to translate engineering calculations into practical field solutions.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and field troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to travel 50%-75%.
