The role investigates needs, effectively collaborates with users to develop user-friendly resources, and serves as a well-rounded resource that contributes to the organization’s success.\nWhat This Role Does:\nImproves scalability, stability, accuracy, speed, and efficiency of the existing ClearCaptions Android Application.\nDesigns, develops, tests, and deploys new libraries, frameworks, or complete systems for core infrastructure, maintaining the highest standards of code quality and testing.\nProactively identifies and resolves ANRs (Application Not Responding) and memory leaks in a complex multi-threaded environment (Coroutines + RxJava).\nMaintains and optimizes a multi-module Gradle architecture consisting of 9+ specialized libraries (VoIP, EKG, Core, UI).\nImplements and debugs low-level interactions between the Android application layer and specialized device hardware, including device reboot handling and hardware listeners.\nCollaborates as part of a Scrum team to support the design, development, testing, and delivery of software solutions.\nParticipates in daily standup meetings and all meetings of the Agile SDLC: planning, estimation, retrospectives, demos, etc.\nPerforms additional duties as assigned.\n\nWhat You Will Bring:\nA high school diploma or equivalent is required; a bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or related field is preferred. Equivalent combinations of education and relevant experience may be considered.\nA minimum of eight (8) years of professional Android software development experience, with extensive experience developing Android applications using Kotlin and Java.\nExtensive experience with Android frameworks and UI development, including XML layouts, Activities, Fragments, Material Design, ConstraintLayout, ViewModel, LiveData, and Flow.\nAdvanced experience with asynchronous programming using Kotlin Coroutines and RxJava 2, including managing complex state transitions and thread synchronization between UI and background services.\nExtensive experience with VoIP/SIP protocols and integration with libraries such as Linphone, along with working knowledge of Android telephony APIs and real-time audio pipelines.\nStrong understanding of Clean Architecture and MVVM patterns, with familiarity with MVP, multi-module project structures, Gradle build configuration, and dependency injection using Dagger 2.\nExperience with networking and data technologies, including Retrofit, OkHttp, RESTful APIs, Room Database, SQLite, and JSON/XML.\nExperience with Android testing frameworks and tools, including JUnit, Espresso, and Mockito.\nExperience with Android development, source control, CI/CD, and application monitoring tools, including Android Studio, Git, GitHub Actions, and Firebase (Crashlytics and Analytics).\nExperience debugging and reasoning about production issues.\nExperience working with open-source technologies.\nAbility to guide and support others through collaboration, including assisting teammates and contributing to shared processes, to foster a high-quality, team-oriented environment that drives results.\nExcellent verbal and written communication, presentation, and problem-solving skills. \nSelf-starter with strong organizational and time management skills, self-directed and able to handle multiple priorities with demanding timeframes. \nDemonstrated ability to use discretion, make sound decisions, and maintain confidentiality.\nWillingness and ability to work flexible hours as needed. \nProficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and modern communication tools for virtual teams (e.g., Microsoft Teams, Slack).\nPreferred:\nExperience with Jetpack Compose.\nExperience with Board Support Package (BSP) and/or Android Open Source Project (AOSP) development.\nExperience using AI-assisted development and troubleshooting tools, such as Claude or Codex.\nExperience with Test-Driven Development (TDD) practices.\nApple iOS experience.\n\nPhysical Demands:In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and applicable state and local laws, the Company will provide reasonable accommodations to qualified individuals with documented disabilities to enable them to perform the essential functions of the job, unless such accommodations would impose an undue hardship.
