The Cardiac Prep/Recovery Unit is a 26-bed unit that cares for pre- and post-invasive cardiac procedures. Services provided by this unit include patient preparation for invasive Cardiovascular and Electrophysiology procedures and recovery post procedures. This unit, locatedbetween the Cardiovascular and Electrophysiology Laboratories, provides easy access to both Invasiveprocedure areas. Pre-procedure patients arrive from multiple locations (home, inpatient setting, and hospital transfers). The staff in this unit specialize in fast-paced and short, length-of-stay care necessary for this patient population.

A caregiver in this position works days,M-F,7:00am-7:30pm.No weekends, on-callor holidays.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Provide or assistwith patient care under the supervision of an RN. Patient care may include vital signs, weight, assistingpatients with personal care and activities of daily living, patient transfers/transport, pulse oximetry, point of care testing, dressing changes, applying external monitoring devicesand removing urinary Foley catheter.

  • Report abnormal findings or changes in physical, mentaland emotional conditions to an RN.

  • Assistwith keeping patients’ rooms clean and orderly.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • High School Diploma/GED

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross upon or within new hire period

  • One year of recent, full-time patient care experience OR nursing student with at least one completed clinical rotation as part of an accredited Nursing School Program

  • Military experience as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W) or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1) OR additionaleducation/training (e.g., mental health)

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination; involves extensive standing and walking.
  • Medium Work - Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force rarely, and/or 0 to 50 pounds of force occasionally to move objects.
  • Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
