As a member of our Laboratory team, you will perform the diagnostic and consultative services that are the foundation for our world-class care. Whether operating complex testing equipment or performing mundane, everyday tasks, your work will help us execute more than 20 million tests each year, allowing us to serve more patients than ever before. This role supports a team dedicated to quality. Laboratory Assistants are utilized to the top of our ability while remaining conscious of our accreditation requirements. In this role you will process samples, perform waived laboratory testing, and direct the workflow within the lab.\nA caregiver in this role works variable shifts between 6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. or 8:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m., with a requirement to work at least 1-2 shifts per week.\nA caregiver who excels in this role will:\nPerform various laboratory procedures.\n\nAssist with receiving, identifying, accessioning, processing, transporting, and storing specimens.\n\nOperate laboratory equipment and performs routine instrument maintenance, trouble shooting and minor repairs.\n\nPerform Quality Assurance activities.\n\nMaintain adequate stock of supplies; performs inventory management of transporting and distributing supplies.\n\nMinimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:\nHigh School Diploma or GED\n\nCompletion of three months of on-the-job training to learn department laboratory procedures, instrumentation and Cleveland Clinic policies\n\nCritical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision\n\nAbility to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action\n\nPreferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:\nHistology or microbiology lab assistant background\n\nKnowledge of anatomy and medical terminology\n\nPrevious experience in a lab\n\nPhysical Requirements:\nRequires manual dexterity and visual acuity when handling specimens and utilizing instrumentation.\n\nAbility to safely handle potentially infectious patient specimens, carcinogenic substances, odorous and other hazardous materials to which they may be exposed.\n\nRequires frequent sitting or standing.\n\nPersonal Protective Equipment:\nFollows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.\n\nThe policy of Cleveland Clinic Health System and its system hospitals (Cleveland Clinic Health System) is to provide equal opportunity to all of our caregivers and applicants for employment in our drug free environment.
