Job Summary

The Program Manager provides strategic leadership for local nursing quality initiatives in partnership with the enterprise nursing quality team. Serving as the site lead for nursing-sensitive quality data reporting to the National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI), this role ensures the accuracy, integrity, and timely submission of performance data.

The Program Manager champions continuous performance improvement by advancing initiatives that enhance quality outcomes, patient safety, regulatory compliance, and evidence-based nursing practice. In addition, the role leads the organization's Magnet Recognition Program® or Pathway to Excellence® Program, ensuring alignment with the standards established by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).

Job Details

Responsibilities:

  • Monitors and analyzes quality outcomes, including nursing-sensitive quality data.
  • Manages all aspects of the collection, administration, benchmarking, and dissemination of the NDNQI database and nursing-sensitive indicators.
  • Develops and assures process to monitor performance and identify where intervention is needed.
  • Collaborates with nursing and organizational leadership to develop annual key performance indicators and to drive local improvements to meet the goals.
  • Provides written and verbal data reviews to nursing and other leaders, including executive leadership.
  • Partners with other departments to support and implement best practices.
  • Collaborates with safety, quality, and patient experience professionals and nursing leadership to implement actionable items related to quality performance and compliance to standards of care.
  • Drives continuous improvement activities around quality, safety, and patient experience priorities and coordinates improvement projects.
  • Manages change to ensure the adoption and sustainment of quality improvement.
  • Manages all aspects of the Magnet process from application to maintenance of
  • Communicates with Magnet appraisers and reapplies for Magnet designation as appropriate.
  • Provides leadership and guidance to internal and external nursing colleagues regarding Magnet/Pathways gap analysis, status, goals, and programs.
  • Provides the interim reporting required by ANCC between the designation processes and is a liaison for Cleveland Clinic with the ANCC national office.
  • Collaborates with nursing leadership to comply with Magnet/Pathway standards.
  • Facilitates Magnet/Pathway steering committee and Magnet/Pathway ambassador program.
  • Manages all aspects of the Magnet/Pathway process, from application to maintenance of certification.
  • Serves as a coach and mentor.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • BSN required
  • MSN preferred

Certifications:

  • Quality or nursing leadership certification within two years.
  • Registered Nurse (RN) with a license in the current state of employment required.

Complexity of Work:

  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to take appropriate action in a stressful environment.

Work Experience:

  • 5 years clinical nursing experience required
  • Nursing leadership experience preferred
  • Experience with project management or performance management activities preferred

Physical Requirements:

  • Sedentary - Manual dexterity to operate office equipment.
  • Requires frequent data entry, standing, walking or sitting.
  • Good visual acuity through normal or corrected vision. Normal for corrected speech and hearing.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
