The Pharmacy Technician - Oncology supports sterile compounding operations within a specialized inpatient infusion pharmacy, preparing medications that are essential to the care of patients across multiple service lines. Working in a highly regulated environment, this caregiver compounds sterile and hazardous medications in accordance with USP <797> and USP <800> standards while maintaining the highest levels of quality, accuracy, and patient safety. Responsibilities also include managing medication and supply inventory, supporting efficient medication preparation and delivery workflows, and ensuring compliance with pharmacy, regulatory, and safety requirements. This role is ideal for caregivers who thrive in a detail-oriented, team-focused environment dedicated to delivering exceptional oncology and infusion pharmacy services.

A caregiver in this position will work Monday through Friday from 7:00am to 4:30pm with no weekends, holidays or on-call requirements.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Prepare medications through selecting, labeling, repacking, non-sterile compounding and sterile compounding.
  • Deliver medications to the appropriate storage locations in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate and appropriate inventories of medications and supplies and complete inventory audits, such as cycle counts and nursing unit inspections.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work area by complying with procedures, rules and regulations, and document regulatory requirements such as temperature logs, scheduled activities and training.
  • Use information systems, technology and automation to complete assigned tasks.
  • Assist with the training of pharmacy caregivers and students.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Licensed in Florida as a Registered Pharmacy Technician
  • Ability to communicate with other caregivers and patients in an effective and positive manner
  • Demonstration of emotional control and intelligence in managing work relationships
  • Ability to perform algebraic calculations necessary for the preparation of extemporaneous compounds
  • Basic computer skills

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Completion of a formal pharmacy technician training program
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB). CPhT through the PTCB is required within 18 months of hire
  • Six months of hospital experience

Physical Requirements:

  • Typical physical demands include ability to perform the job while standing, walking, reaching, stretching and sitting for prolonged periods; manual dexterity sufficient to perform computer, dispensing, and compounding.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
