The Tiek Lab focuses on drug-resistant pediatric and adult brain tumors, with an emphasis on tumor metabolism and the surrounding brain environment. The lab uses specialized proteomics, metabolomics and protein sensors to understand the mechanisms that allow tumors to grow after treatment and evade immune detection, with the goal of identifying metabolic pathways that can be targeted to develop more effective treatments. The Tiek Lab has ongoing research projects in both adult and pediatric gliomas and seeks creative, collaborative thinkers who are passionate about advancing treatments for these diseases. As a Research Technician on our team, you will perform laboratory techniques and procedures required for assigned experimental studies, assist with establishing and scheduling analyses, conduct tests using a range of laboratory equipment and instrumentation, and assemble experimental results for review by research staff.

A caregiver in this position works days from 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (flexible start/end times)

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

• Perform laboratory techniques procedures required for experimental studies.

• Perform technical lab duties as delegated by the Research Staff Supervisor related to the assigned project.

• Schedule and perform the various analyses needed to complete the project.

• Assist with establishing and scheduling of various procedures and analysis.

• Prepare reagents and purify chemicals using chromatography, distillation, etc.

• Identify, separate and quantify various substances.

• Conduct tests and procedures utilizing various laboratory equipment and instrumentation.

• Accumulate data from analyses, prepare charts, graphs, statistical tables for presentation to Research Staff Supervisor for final analysis and preparation for publication, grant proposals and applications for research funds.

• Potentially order laboratory supplies and equipment.

• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• High School Diplomaand two years of experience in a research or related laboratory environment

• OR Associate’s degree in laboratory science fieldand one year of experience in a research or related laboratory environment

• OR Bachelor's degree

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• Prior research experience

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to perform work in a stationary position for extended periods

• Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment

• Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information

• Ability to distinguish color

• Manual dexterity to handle specimens and repair equipment

• Ability to lift and transport equipment or specimens weighing up to 20 pounds

• May be exposed to hazardous chemicals, bio-hazards, radioactive materials, etc.
