We are seeking a highly skilled Applied Scientist to lead the development and implementation of state-of-the-art algorithms and machine learning models, with a focus on advancing the use of Generative AI (GenAI) to address critical healthcare challenges. As a Staff Machine Learning Scientist, you will help define the long-term AI strategy for Cleveland Clinic, partnering with cross-functional stakeholders to identify business needs and deliver scalable, AI-driven solutions.
We are seeking a highly skilled Machine Learning Scientist to lead the development and implementation of state-of-the-art algorithms and machine learning models, with a focus on advancing the use of Generative AI (GenAI) to address critical healthcare challenges. As a Senior or Staff Machine Learning Scientist, you will collaborate with business and clinical stakeholders across various functions to understand complex business needs, define and advance AI strategies, and deliver innovative, scalable, AI-driven solutions. You will apply advanced AI techniques to real-world healthcare problems, conduct experiments to evaluate model performance, and contribute to the integration of AI solutions into clinical and operational systems. At the Staff level, you will also help shape the long-term AI strategy for Cleveland Clinic and provide strategic direction for the development and application of emerging AI technologies. To be successful in this role, you will bring a strong machine learning background, solid software development skills, and a passion for applying emerging technologies to improve healthcare.

Staff Machine Learning Scientist
Senior Machine Learning Scientist
A caregiver in this role works remotely across the country Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. -- 5:00 p.m. with up to 5% of travel required.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Develop, train, fine-tune, and optimize advanced GenAI and ML models to solve important problems in healthcare.
Design and conduct experiments to evaluate the performance of AI models.
Collaborate cross-functionally with IT, operations, and clinical teams to develop and integrate AI solutions into existing and new products.
Mentor and guide interns, junior staff, scientists, and engineers, depending on the level.
Stay up to date with the latest developments in GenAI and large language models.
Participate in the development of technology roadmaps for AI projects.
Present project updates to team members and cross-functional partners.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Staff Machine Learning Scientist
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
MS or PhD degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related fields
Seven+ years of hands-on experience in AI/ML research and development with emphasis in predictive modeling, deep leaning, GenAI and LLMs post PhD
OR 10+ years of hands-on experience in AI/ML research and development with emphasis in predictive modeling, deep leaning, GenAI and LLMs post Master’s degree
Expertise in using AI frameworks and tools such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, Hugging Face, to build and tune foundation models
In depth experience in deep learning and GenAI techniques in Natural Language Processing and multi-modal representations
Strong software skills in Python or other relevant programming languages
Ability to work cross functionally and strong communication and interpersonal skills to convey technical concept to non-technical stakeholders
Strong problem-solving skills and passion for leveraging AI in healthcare
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Experience developing and deploying AI technologies in healthcare
Familiarity with healthcare data and systems (EHR, medical imaging, etc.)
Experience with cloud computing technologies related to AI, including Azure, Databricks, etc.
Familiarity with MLOps best practices
Senior Machine Learning Scientist
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Master’s degree in Statistics, Computer Science, Machine Learning, Economics, Applied Math, Engineering, or related fields
Seven years of hands-on experience in AI/ML research and development with emphasis in predictive modeling, deep leaning, GenAI and LLMs
OR a PhD and four years of hands-on experience in AI/ML research and development with emphasis in predictive modeling, deep leaning, GenAI and LLMs post PhD
Expertise in using AI frameworks and tools such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, Hugging Face, to build and fine tune foundation models
In depth experience in deep learning and GenAI techniques in Natural Language Processing and multi-modal representations
Strong software skills in Python or other relevant programming languages
Experience developing and deploying AI technologies in healthcare

Ability to take a project from requirements gathering and design to actual product launch
