We move fast, take ownership, and build with intent - using AI not as a feature, but as core infrastructure.\nRole Overview\nThe Payroll Implementation Specialist owns the backend build of every new payroll client. They configure Employment Hero / KeyPay, Visory's primary payroll platform, and Xero Payroll AU where relevant. They translate award and enterprise agreement obligations into working rule sets, and connect rostering, Time & Attendance and third-party systems so data flows cleanly from day one. They run payroll onboarding end to end: post-sale discovery, build, parallel run, go-live, and handover to the Senior Payroll Specialist who holds the client from there.\nThe role works in partnership with the Business Performance Partner, who owns the customer relationship and the change conversation. The Implementation Specialist owns the technical build. They are customer-facing where the work requires it, running discovery, walking through configuration decisions and reviewing parallel runs, but their accountability is the integrity of the setup rather than the relationship.\nSetup quality at go-live determines everything downstream: data accuracy, how well our payroll AI agents perform on the file, compliance exposure, and retention. This role exists to get it right the first time, and to make each build faster and more consistent than the last.\nThe Responsibilities\nPayroll onboarding delivery\nOwn the implementation plan for each new payroll client, covering scope, sequence, milestones and go-live date.\nRun discovery to capture the client's current payroll state: entities, pay cycles, classifications, allowances, leave policies, pay rules, and known problems.\nBuild and configure Employment Hero / KeyPay from the ground up, including organisation structure, pay schedules, pay categories, leave categories, superannuation, employee records, approvals and reporting.\nConfigure Xero Payroll AU where that is the client's platform, and manage migrations between platforms.\nMigrate opening balances, YTD figures and leave balances accurately, with reconciliation evidence retained.\nRun parallel pay runs before go-live and resolve every variance before the first live cycle.\nSet up the client's payroll workflows in the Visory platform so they accurately reflect the scope, frequency and deliverables for that client.\nHand over to the Senior Payroll Specialist with documented configuration, known quirks, and a clear list of open items.\nAward and rule set configuration\nInterpret modern awards and enterprise agreements and translate them into working rule sets in Employment Hero / KeyPay.\nBuild custom rule sets where a standard award template does not fit the client's arrangements.\nTest rule sets against real scenarios before go-live, including overtime, penalties, allowances, shift loadings, breaks, and casual and part-time arrangements.\nDocument the interpretation behind each configuration so the decision can be defended, reused, and picked up by the Senior Payroll Specialist after handover.\nIntegrations\nConnect Employment Hero / KeyPay to rostering and Time & Attendance platforms such as Tanda, Shiftcare and Deputy, and validate the data flow end to end.\nIntegrate HRIS, accounting and other third-party systems so payroll data lands correctly in the ledger.\nTroubleshoot integration failures during onboarding and establish a stable steady state before handover.\nWorking with the Business Performance Partner\nPartner with the Business Performance Partner, who owns the customer relationship, on scoping, sequencing and expectation setting.\nJoin customer conversations where technical depth is required, including discovery, configuration walkthroughs, parallel run reviews and go-live readiness.\nGive the Business Performance Partner a plain-language view of build status so they can hold the customer conversation with confidence.\nRaise scope creep, data gaps, timeline risk and compliance concerns early rather than absorbing them silently.\nCoordinate with the customer team's Manager so the receiving Senior Payroll Specialist has capacity and context at handover.\nRepeatability\nBuild and maintain configuration templates, checklists and standard patterns so each onboarding is faster and more consistent than the last.\nContribute to a shared library of award configurations so common awards are built once, not rebuilt every time.\nFeed recurring setup problems and platform limitations back to the payroll and product teams.\nFlag configuration patterns that cause the payroll AI agents to stumble, so the agent operating environment starts clean rather than being cleaned up later.\nHow Performance Is Measured\nTime to go-live: payroll onboardings delivered against the agreed go-live date.\nSetup quality: rework arising from configuration in the first three live pay cycles after handover.\nCustomer satisfaction: how customers rate the onboarding experience, captured at go-live.\nSkills & Experience\nImplementation craft\n4 to 5+ years running payroll implementations, ideally in an outsourced, bureau or multi-client environment.\nProven track record delivering implementations end to end, from discovery and build through parallel run, go-live and handover.\nExperience migrating clients between payroll platforms, including opening balance and YTD migration.\nPayroll systems\nDeep, hands-on Employment Hero / KeyPay expertise. This is Visory's primary payroll platform and the role requires genuine power-user proficiency, not familiarity.\nWorking knowledge of Xero Payroll AU.\nComfortable building HRIS and Time & Attendance integrations (Tanda, Shiftcare, Deputy, BambooHR or equivalents), including rostering data flows.\nAward and compliance depth\nConfident working across multiple modern awards and enterprise agreements.\nAble to build both standard and custom rule sets, and to configure awards into the platform rather than working around them.\nSolid grounding in Australian payroll compliance, including STP, superannuation, leave entitlements, terminations and payroll tax.\nAI-augmented delivery fluency\nUnderstands that configuration quality determines how well an AI agent performs on a file, and builds accordingly.\nComfortable working alongside Visory's payroll AI agents, and feeding structured learnings back to the payroll and product teams.\nCustomer-facing confidence\nComfortable working directly with customers, running discovery, explaining configuration decisions and holding the line on timelines.\nAble to translate technical configuration into plain English for business owners, finance leads and HR contacts.\nComfortable operating alongside a relationship owner without needing to own the relationship.\nJudgement and accountability\nMethodical and evidence-driven.
