The role covers the full reporting lifecycle, from gathering requirements and interrogating source systems, through to data modelling, dashboard build, and ongoing maintenance of published reports.\nThis is a hands-on delivery role, but it is not purely a build role. The right person is comfortable questioning the data in front of them, spotting when numbers do not reconcile, and explaining what a result actually means to a stakeholder who does not work with data every day.The reporting produced in this role is used by senior stakeholders to make decisions, so accuracy, clarity, and reliable turnaround matter as much as technical skill.\nKey Responsibilities\nReport and Dashboard Development\nDesign, develop, publish, and schedule Power BI reports and dashboards against agreed business requirements.\n\nBuild and maintaindata models that are structured, documented, and performant, applying appropriate relationships, hierarchies, and row-level security where required.\n\nWrite and optimiseDAX measures and calculation logic, and maintainconsistency with team standards for naming, formatting, and visual design.\n\nMonitor refresh performance and report usage, andremediate failures or slow-running datasets.\n\nData Preparation and Analysis\nWrite, test, and optimiseSQL queries to extract and transform data from source systems and warehouses.\n\nUse Python for data cleaning, reconciliation, and automation tasks where Power Query or SQL is not the right tool.\n\nBuild and maintainsupporting Excel models and working files, including formula-driven workbooks used for validation and ad hoc analysis.\n\nValidate outputs before release, reconciling against source systems and flagging data quality issues to the relevant owner.\n\nAutomation and Process Support\nBuild and maintainPower Automate flows supporting recurring reporting, data movement, alerting, and approvalworkflows.\n\nIdentifymanual reporting steps that can be automated and propose practical improvements.\n\nStakeholder Engagement\nWork directly with business stakeholders to gather requirements, clarify definitions, and translate business questions into technical specifications.\n\nPresent and walk through completed reports, providing enough context that users can interpret the output on their own.\n\nDocument datasets, measures, and business logicso reports remainsupportable when the developer is unavailable.\n\nRespond to ad hoc data requests within agreed turnaround times.\n\nQualifications\nQualifications and Experience\nApproximately 5 years of combined experience in data analysis, reporting, or business intelligence roles, of which at least 2 to 3 years must be hands-on Power BI development.\n\nDemonstrated data acumen: able to interrogate a dataset independently, identifyanomalies, understand how source system behaviouraffects the numbers, and reach a defensible conclusion rather than simply reproducing a visual.\n\nStrong working proficiencyin Power BI, including Power Query, DAX, data modelling, and publishing to the service.\n\nSolid SQL capability, including joins, aggregations, window functions, and query optimisation.\n\nWorking knowledge of Python for data manipulation and automation.\n\nAdvanced Excel, including complex formulas, pivot-based analysis, and structured workbook design.\n\nPractical experience building Power Automate flows in a production environment.\n\nClear written and verbal communication, with the ability to explain technical detail simply to non-technical stakeholders.\n\nTertiary qualification in business, data or computer science, statistics, information systems, or a related field preferred.\n\nAdvantageous Skills and Experience\nThe following are not entry requirements, but will be viewed favourablyand may influence placement within the level:\nExposure to other data visualisationplatforms such as Tableau, Grafana, or Superset, indicatingadaptability across BI tooling rather than dependence on a single product.\n\nPractical use of AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot or Claude Code in day-to-day delivery work, and an interest in applying them to improve turnaround and code quality.\n\nExperience in a fast-paced, multi-site, or distributed organisation.\n\nFamiliarity with data governance concepts such as lineage, access control, and data quality management.\n\nRelevant
