You will take ownership of billing, Work in Progress (WIP), aged debt and financial reporting, helping to improve billing performance, cash collection and overall working capital.\nThis is a highly collaborative role where you will work closely with Partners, fee earners and finance teams, providing guidance on billing processes, resolving queries and ensuring client billing requirements are consistently met.\nDuration: 12 month FTC\nWorking Pattern: 2 days working from the office, 3 days remote\nYou will work collaboratively with Finance, Revenue Control, Credit Control, Legal Support and Practice Management teams, supporting Partners and fee earners with billing and working capital matters.\nThe role combines hands-on billing with financial analysis, stakeholder management and client service, giving you the opportunity to build strong relationships across the business and contribute to continuous improvements in billing and revenue processes.\nKey Responsibilities\nManage the end-to-end billing process for allocated practice groups and Partners, ensuring invoices are accurate and raised within agreed timescales.\nPrepare, review and process bills in accordance with individual client billing requirements, including e-billing arrangements.\nMonitor WIP and aged debt, proactively identifying billing opportunities, outstanding balances and matters requiring action.\nWork closely with Partners, fee earners and Credit Control to improve billing turnaround, cash collection and lock-up.\nReview unpaid invoices, support the recovery of outstanding debt and escalate financial or payment risks where appropriate.\nProduce and analyse billing, WIP and aged debt reports, monitoring financial KPIs and highlighting areas of concern.\nSupport month-end and year-end billing activities, as well as forecasting, budgeting, management information and ad-hoc reporting requirements.\nBuild strong relationships with Partners, fee earners and business services teams, acting as a trusted point of contact on billing processes and financial procedures.\nProvide guidance on billing best practice and client requirements, responding to and resolving billing queries efficiently and professionally.\nSupport Partners with client discussions relating to billing and payment matters.\nEnsure billing activities comply with relevant firm policies, regulatory requirements, client guidelines, data protection and confidentiality requirements.\nMaintain accurate billing records and financial documentation and support audit requests and financial reviews when required.\nIdentify opportunities to improve billing efficiency, reduce lock-up and strengthen cash collection performance.\nWork collaboratively across Legal Support, Finance, Revenue Control and Practice Management, sharing best practice and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.\nEssential Skills & Experience\nPrevious experience in a Billing Controller, Revenue Controller or Finance role within a legal or professional services environment.\nExperience managing complex billing processes and building effective stakeholder relationships.\nStrong experience of WIP management, aged debt management and financial reporting.\nGood understanding of client billing requirements and experience working with e-billing platforms.\nStrong understanding of billing, revenue and working capital management processes.\nAdvanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience using practice management and finance systems.\nStrong numerical and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret financial information and produce meaningful reports.\nExcellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to influence and appropriately challenge.\nHighly organised with excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure.\nStrong commercial awareness and a proactive, solution-focused approach.\nA strong customer service mindset and a positive, collaborative and flexible approach to teamwork.\nWhat sets this role apart\nThis is a broad billing and revenue-focused position where you will have ownership of the billing cycle rather than simply processing invoices. You will proactively monitor WIP, identify billing opportunities, manage aged debt and help drive improvements in billing turnaround and cash collection.\nYou will build strong relationships with Partners and fee earners, acting as a trusted point of contact for billing processes, financial procedures and client requirements.
