This team is responsible for the distributed systems that continuously scan the internet and our customers’ environments to collect the security data that powers our cyber insurance underwriting and our attack surface management product, Coalition Control.\nIn this role, you will design, build, and operate large-scale cloud services that run internet-wide and customer-specific scans, ingest and normalize third-party threat intelligence, and surface high-quality findings into our underwriting, risk, and security workflows. You’ll work closely with other senior engineers, security, product, and data teams to evolve the architecture of our scanning platform, improve its performance and reliability, and help mentor engineers across a distributed team spanning the US, Canada, and EU.\nResponsibilities\nOwn end-to-end systems design for key components of the scanning engine, from initial design through implementation, deployment, and ongoing iteration\nDesign and implement high-quality services in Python and Go that power our scanning workflows, ensuring code is maintainable, well-tested, and observable.\nImprove performance, scalability, and reliability of the scanning engine, optimizing for large-scale, distributed scanning workloads and strict SLAs.\nPartner with security, product, and data teams to translate detection and scanning requirements into robust, production-ready systems and APIs.\nDrive technical excellence and standards in the scanning engine codebase, including code review rigor, design documentation, and best practices for secure coding.\nContribute to architecture and roadmap decisions for the scanning platform, evaluating tradeoffs and proposing solutions that balance speed, quality, and risk.\nDiagnose and resolve complex production issues related to scanning performance, accuracy, and stability, collaborating with SRE/Infra teams where needed.\nMentor and support other engineers on the team through design feedback, pairing, and knowledge sharing around systems design and scanning domain concepts.\nSkills and Qualifications\nStrong experience as a Senior Software Engineer (or equivalent) working on backend or systems-level services.\nProficiency in at least one of Python or Go, with the ability and willingness to work in both languages over time.\nDemonstrated experience with systems design for distributed or high-availability services, including clear understanding of scalability, reliability, and observability.\nHands-on experience building or maintaining scanning, detection, or similar engine-like systems (e.g., vulnerability scanning, security scanning, data processing pipelines, or similar high-throughput engines).\nStrong software engineering fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, concurrency, and performance optimization.\nExperience working in a cloud-native environment (e.g., microservices, containers, CI/CD, monitoring, logging).\nAbility to collaborate effectively across teams, including product, security, and platform/infra, and communicate tradeoffs clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.\nProven track record of owning projects end-to-end, from problem definition and design through implementation, rollout, and iteration.\nComfort operating in a fast-paced, evolving environment, making pragmatic technical decisions while maintaining quality and security.\nExperience with code quality practices (testing, static analysis, code reviews) and building maintainable systems.\nBonus Points \nCyber security domain knowledge in scanning through endpoints.\nCompensation\nAs a remote-first organization, our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several Canadian geographic markets. \nIn Alberta, British Columbia & Ontario the base salary for this position ranges from $149,600/year up to $199,600/year. \nFor all other locations, the base salary for this position ranges from $134,600/year up to $184,600/year. \nConsistent with applicable laws, an employee's pay within this range is based on a number of factors, which include but are not limited to relevant education, skills, job-related knowledge, qualifications, work experience, credentials, and/or geographic location.
