With a substantial team to manage, day-to-day coding will be limited, but you'll need the technical background to contribute to code reviews, understand engineering challenges and support sound design decisions.\nYour work will include:\nLeading, supporting and developing the team, identifying skills gaps and helping engineers build their expertise\nOverseeing software and firmware delivery across multiple projects, balancing priorities, resources, quality and release schedules\nImproving the software development lifecycle, introducing practical processes and modern engineering practices\nContributing to code and design reviews, maintaining standards for software quality, architecture and maintainability\nHelping shape the team's technical vision and technology roadmap\nExploring how AI tools can support code development and testing\nWorking closely with project managers, technical leads and other engineering disciplines to resolve problems and coordinate delivery\nSupporting the transfer of new designs into production alongside manufacturing engineering\nYou'll bring an informed view of how modern software teams operate and the confidence to introduce improvements. Just as importantly, you'll create a positive working environment where engineers feel supported, understand expectations and can do their best work.\nWhat we're looking for\nWe're interested in someone who combines a strong embedded software background with effective people management and clear technical judgement.\nYou'll have:\nProven experience leading and managing engineering teams\nA strong background in embedded software development using C/C++\nExperience with embedded Linux and driver development\nA good understanding of software architecture, design reviews and the software development lifecycle\nExperience developing engineers and improving team capability\nThe ability to manage competing priorities across several projects\nClear communication skills and the confidence to challenge constructively, make decisions and follow through\nYou might already be working as an Embedded Software Manager, Software Engineering Manager or an experienced Engineering Team Lead with substantial people management responsibility.\nYou'll need to be comfortable discussing technical detail with experienced engineers while keeping sight of team development and the wider delivery priorities.\nUseful, but not essential\nExperience or exposure in any of the following would be useful:\nManaging teams spanning embedded software, FPGA or DSP development\nSystem-on-Chip platforms\nFPGA/VHDL development and ModelSim simulation\nDigital signal processing\nRust\nElectronic design processes and laboratory debug equipment\nRF technology or digital video standards\nJira\nIntroducing AI tools into software development and testing\nYou don't need to be an expert in every discipline the team covers.
