This role is based at our head office in Mawson Lakes, Adelaide.\nAbout the Role\nWe are looking for someone from either a signal processing engineering or physics background.\nYou will join Minelab’s Physics and Signal Processing team and help turn extremely faint sensor signals into reliable detection and classification performance.\nThe work spans algorithm development, mathematical modelling, experimentation, data analysis and practical product development. You will investigate new sensing concepts, bring up prototypes, analyse laboratory and field data, and help integrate successful algorithms into real products.\nThe role is particularly well suited to someone equally comfortable with mathematical abstraction and physical experimentation - a deep technical thinker and hands-on problem-solver who enjoys carrying ideas from first-principles analysis through working prototypes to proven real-world performance.\nWhat you’ll do\nDevelop statistical and digital signal-processing algorithms to detect and classify faint signals in challenging environments\nDesign robust signal features, estimators, classifiers and sensor-calibration methods\nBuild prototypes, plan experiments and evaluate competing approaches using laboratory and field data\nInvestigate signal-quality and system-performance problems across sensors, electronics, algorithms and calibration\nWork with embedded software, electronics, mechanical and systems engineers to translate successful prototypes into reliable products\nExplore new sensor concepts and technologies that could deliver meaningful customer benefits\nWhat you’ll bring\nA PhD in physics, electrical or electronic engineering, signal processing, applied mathematics or a related discipline is strongly preferred; candidates with equivalent depth developed through postgraduate study or relevant industry research will also be considered\nStrong foundations in statistics, linear algebra and numerical methods\nProficiency with numerical computing, preferably using Python and its scientific stack\nDepth in one or more of signal processing; detection, estimation or classification; mathematical or physical-system modelling; electromagnetic sensing; or machine learning applied to sensor data\nThe ability to reason from first principles and test ideas against real data\nA practical, collaborative approach and clear technical communication skills\nAdditional experience we value\nC or C++ development for embedded or real-time systems\nElectromagnetism, electronics, sensors or instrumentation\nExperimental design, system identification, sensor calibration or field testing\nProduct development from early prototype through to manufacturing\nEffective use of AI-assisted development tools or coding agents\nBenefits and Culture\nOur culture is supportive and collaborative.
