As AI writes more of the world's code, the bottleneck in software has shifted from writing code to verifying it works, and AI cannot verify its own work with certainty. Code Metal takes a fundamentally different approach: constrain AI to what it does reliably, verify every step independently of the model using formal methods, and keep engineers in the loop on the decisions that matter. The result isn't code that probably works - it's code that is provably correct, with auditable proof. Customers including the U.S. Air Force, L3Harris, RTX, and Toshiba use Code Metal to modernize legacy code, optimize performance on real hardware, and move prototypes to production, fast. Founded in 2023 with offices in Boston and San Francisco, Code Metal is funded by Accel, Salesforce Ventures, B Capital, Smith Point Capital, J2 Ventures, Shield Capital, Overmatch, RTX, and others. \nLearn more at codemetal.ai.\nCode Metal operates at the intersection of advanced algorithms and specialized hardware, where successful deployment requires deep technical execution close to the customer. We’re looking for a Forward Deployed Engineer who owns the last mile from validated solution to reliable fielded capability: integrating, optimizing, debugging, and operating customer workloads on GPUs, FPGAs, and edge systems.\nThis is not a purely internal engineering role. You will work directly with customer teams - often in high-stakes, mission-critical environments - to integrate into real systems, resolve deployment blockers, and ensure successful production delivery. You will operate with high autonomy and remain accountable until the capability works reliably in the customer environment.\nRequirements:\nOwn end-to-end deployment of validated customer solutions. From implementation and integration through production acceptance, you are accountable for delivering reliable working systems on target hardware.\n\nWork directly with customer engineers and operators to integrate into their environment, understand operational constraints, and close gaps between a validated solution and production use.\n\nProductionize and optimize implementations. Take validated DSP, RF, communications, or other compute-heavy pipelines and make them reliable, performant, testable, and deployable on GPUs, FPGAs, and other accelerators using Code Metal's platform.\n\nOptimize performance under real-world constraints. Profile, debug, and tune systems for latency, throughput, memory, and power across heterogeneous compute environments.\n\nDebug across the full stack. Identify and resolve issues spanning algorithms, software, hardware, and toolchains in complex deployment environments.\n\nCollaborate cross-functionally. Partner with Solutions Engineers, Solutions Architects, product, and core engineering to resolve field issues, harden reusable capabilities, and feed deployment learnings into the platform.\n\nOperate with a high-ownership mindset. Navigate ambiguity, unblock critical issues, and do what is required to move deployments forward in high-stakes environments.\n\nBuild reusable deployment patterns and playbooks. Capture integration, test, observability, and operational learnings so future deployments become more repeatable and supportable.\n\nSupport on-site deployments. Travel as needed (30-75% depending on the customer) to integrate, test, and validate systems in real-world environments.\n\nEligible to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance; some assignments may require an active Top Secret clearance.\n\nPreferred Qualifications:\nExperience in software engineering, systems engineering, or applied algorithm development\n\nStrong programming ability in at least one of: Python, C++, CUDA, Matlab, VHDL, Verilog, or Rust\n\nHands-on experience with one or more of the following: GPU programming, FPGA development, embedded systems, or edge compute environments\n\nExperience working with compute-intensive workloads (DSP, RF, communications, computer vision, etc.)\n\nDemonstrated ability to optimize and deploy software on specialized or constrained hardware\n\nAbility to debug complex systems across software and hardware boundaries\n\nStrong problem-solving skills and ability to operate effectively in ambiguous, fast-moving environments\n\nComfort working directly with customers and communicating technical concepts clearly\n\nComfort spending significant time embedded with customer teams when deployment needs require it.\n\nExperience delivering software or systems in defense, aerospace, industrial, or other mission-critical environments.\n\nLevel Expectations by Track:\nThis role is open at Senior, Staff, or Principal level. The expectations below describe how scope, ownership, and technical leadership differ by level; candidates are evaluated against the level they are hired into.\nSenior:\nYears of Experience: 5+\n\nEngineering Craft & Code Quality: Writes clean, idiomatic, well-tested code/output and follows best practices; drives debugging of the team's hardest issues; ensures AI-assisted work is correct, modular, and fully tested.\n\nArchitecture & Technical Knowledge: Designs and implements changes to single systems, collaborates on larger designs, and drives architecture reviews for multi-developer projects.\n\nDelivery, Scoping & De-risking: Works with Product to scope and de-risk work; provides reliable estimates for medium-sized projects with clear risk communication.\n\nTechnical Leadership & Mentorship: A go-to technical reviewer for the team's codebase; mentors and onboards teammates; contributes to interviews and candidate experience.\n\nStaff:\nYears of Experience: 7+\n\nEngineering Craft & Code Quality: Defines and enforces the team's testing strategy, standards, and quality bar; ensures AI-generated output is tightly integrated into existing paradigms and robustly tested.\n\nArchitecture & Technical Knowledge: Designs cross-cutting changes across the stack; provides architectural guidance across the team; owns design docs for major multi-service or multi-surface projects.\n\nDelivery, Scoping & De-risking: Owns technical scoping and execution strategy for complex, multi-sprint initiatives; audits requirements for technical risk and hidden dependencies before development begins.\n\nTechnical Leadership & Mentorship: The primary technical gatekeeper for the team's codebase; reviews most high-impact work; leads technical grooming, design spikes, and RFCs; coordinates across pods when changes cross domain boundaries.\n\nPrincipal:\nYears of Experience: 10+\n\nEngineering Craft & Code Quality: Sets the quality and correctness bar across the department; their work is the example others learn from; improves the automated systems and practices that ensure quality department-wide.\n\nArchitecture & Technical Knowledge: Provides architectural guidance across the department and invents paradigms that solve CodeMetal-specific domain problems (e.g., translation, optimization, deployment across target environments); a key resource on every major system.\n\nDelivery, Scoping & De-risking: A consistent contributor to the company's technical roadmap; gives reliable estimates for large cross-team initiatives; ensures pragmatic scoping toward the most valuable outcomes.\n\nTechnical Leadership & Mentorship: An active driver of company-wide architectural reviews and proposals; mentors mid-level and senior staff at scale; influences others across departments toward the best technical outcome.\n\nBenefits\nPay depends on experience, but we strive to be at the upper end of the salary range\n\nHealth care plan with 100% premium coverage, including medical, dental, and vision\n\n401k with 5% matching\n\nPaid Time Off (uncapped vacation, plus sick and public holidays)\n\nFlexible hybrid or remote work arrangement\n\nRelocation assistance for qualifying employees\n\nWage Transparency - The salary range for this role is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as the final offer amount may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, individual proficiency, skills, experience, and location.\nWe are an equal opportunity employer. US Citizenship may be required for certain project assignments involving security clearance.\nPursuant to the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance, we will consider for employment qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records.","description_format":"text","description_chars":8367,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":null,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":null,"security_clearance":true,"languages":[]},"benefits":["401k plan","Relocation assistance"],"hiring_locations":[{"name":"United States","iso":"US","kind":"country"}],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":true,"industries":["Embedded Software & RTOS","Code Intelligence","AI Development Tools"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-05-22T22:30:44Z"}],"visa":[],"liveness":{"score":10,"band":"cold","label":"Long shot","p_open":1,"p_active":0.359,"p_room":0.28,"age_days":147,"expected_fill_days":50,"reasons":["conf:3","velocity","win:tail","crowd:"],"computed_at":"2026-10-17T05:46:00Z"},"pay":{"stated_usd_annual":200000,"is_top_pay":true},"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/code-metal-forward-deployed-engineer","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/code-metal-forward-deployed-engineer.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-10-17T11:45:46Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","about":"Alion is a live layer of people, companies and AI agents: who they are, whether they are real and active right now, what they do and how to work with them, readable by people and by agents and paid per call.","catalog":"https://alion.io/catalog.json","usage":{"tier":"crawler_verified","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":15468,"day_limit":null,"remaining_today":null,"minute_limit":300,"resets_at":"2026-10-18T00:00:00Z"}},"offers":[{"id":"company.slices","title":"One company in depth, by slice","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002,"plus_per_slice":{"credits":0.05,"usd":0.005}},"unit":"per company, plus each slice with data","note":"the employer in depth","call":{"mcp_tool":"get_company","arguments":{"id":716539},"rest":"https://alion.io/mcp/rest/get_company?id=716539"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.slices&for=job%2Fcode-metal-forward-deployed-engineer"},{"id":"market.stats","title":"A market slice: pay, demand and time to fill","status":"live","price":{"credits":1,"usd":0.1},"unit":"per slice","note":"pay, demand and time to fill for this role and place","call":{"mcp_tool":"market_stats"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=market.stats&for=job%2Fcode-metal-forward-deployed-engineer"},{"id":"job.search","title":"Open jobs by role, technology, place, pay and visa","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002},"unit":"per posting in a list","note":"similar open postings","call":{"mcp_tool":"search_jobs"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=job.search&for=job%2Fcode-metal-forward-deployed-engineer"},{"id":"company.verify","title":"Is this company real and active right now","status":"pilot","price":null,"unit":"per company","request":{"url":"https://alion.io/catalog/request","method":"POST","body":"{\"offer\": \"company.verify\", \"for\": \"job/code-metal-forward-deployed-engineer\", \"note\": \"what you need it for\"}"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.verify&for=job%2Fcode-metal-forward-deployed-engineer"}]}
