Hit like a giant.\nTHE ROLE\n As a Software Engineer, Backend at Codeway, you will design, build, and operate the scalable backend services that power mobile apps and web experiences used by millions. You won't just write code; you will own features end-to-end - from initial system design and AI integration to deployment and production monitoring - with a strong focus on API quality, performance, and reliability.\nOur environment is fast-paced, and we value engineers who can turn complex architectural challenges into simple, elegant, and maintainable solutions. The ideal candidate will be comfortable building backend services for mobile products and working with API-heavy consumer apps.\nYou will collaborate with mobile, product, AI, and DevOps teams to ship features end to end, bringing AI-powered capabilities into production where relevant.\nWhat You’ll Be Doing\nDesign and implement scalable systems. Build high-performance backend architectures and microservices/RESTful APIs for mobile and web clients using Node.js and Python.\n\nOwn features end-to-end. Take full responsibility for the lifecycle of your services, from ideation and implementation through to deployment (GCP/Firebase) and continuous optimisation.\n\nIntegrate AI and media workflows. Deploy, monitor, and support LLMs and media workflows (STT/TTS, image/video/audio processing) in production, managing model serving, inference performance, and latency/cost tradeoffs.\n\nArchitect asynchronous workflows. Implement robust event-driven systems using queues and tasks to handle heavy media and AI workloads.\n\nSimplify systems. Evaluate every component and process to remove unnecessary complexity and build minimalist, future-proof architectures.\n\nOptimise performance. Proactively identify bottlenecks across distributed systems to improve latency, throughput, reliability, and costs.\n\nEnsure backend quality. Establish robust error handling, security best practices, and end-to-end observability, and contribute to code quality through reviews, testing, and documentation.\n\nTroubleshoot and stabilise. Debug issues and proactively improve system stability and observability in production environments.\n\nCollaborate cross-functionally. Partner with Mobile, Frontend, Product, DevOps, and AI teams to design and ship impactful features.\n\nWhat You’ll Bring\n\nExperience. 3+ years of professional experience as a Backend Engineer, with a track record of building consumer-facing products at scale.\n\nTechnical excellence. Strong hands-on proficiency in both Node.js and Python, with a deep understanding of CS fundamentals, data structures, algorithms, and system design.\n\nSystem design. Experience designing and working with microservices architectures and RESTful APIs, with a solid grasp of databases, data modelling, performance optimisation, and security best practices.\n\nInfrastructure knowledge. Hands-on experience with cloud environments such as GCP, AWS, or Azure (GCP and/or Firebase preferred), with strong production debugging and observability habits.\n\nAI familiarity. Experience deploying and optimising AI models in production, including familiarity with external AI APIs and their performance considerations.\n\nScale. Ability to contribute effectively in high-scale environments handling large volumes of traffic and data, with strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.\n\nCommunication. Proficiency in English and Turkish, with the ability to explain complex engineering decisions and trade-offs clearly to both technical and non-technical teams.\n\nEducation.
