The successful candidate will lead the design and delivery of mechanical engineering projects while working closely with clients, architects, contractors, and multidisciplinary project teams.\nThis role combines technical engineering, project management, and client coordination. The successful candidate will manage projects from planning through construction, serve as a primary point of contact for clients, and mentor junior engineers and designers. This position also provides an opportunity to help grow Coffman’s mechanical engineering practice in Southern California.\nKey responsibilities will include:\nLead the design and coordination of HVAC systems for a variety of building types.\nSupport plumbing and piping system design based on project needs and experience.\nServe as project manager and primary client contact for assigned projects.\nDevelop project scopes, fee estimates, schedules, and work plans.\nManage project budgets, schedules, deliverables, and multidisciplinary coordination.\nPrepare and review engineering calculations, technical reports, plans, specifications, and construction documents.\nPerform and review heating and cooling load calculations, equipment selections, and system analyses.\nCoordinate mechanical systems with architectural, structural, civil, electrical, and fire protection disciplines.\nLead client meetings, project coordination meetings, site visits, field investigations, and construction meetings.\nReview submittals, shop drawings, RFIs, and contractor requests during construction.\nProvide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and designers.\nReview the work of project team members and provide constructive technical feedback.\nPrepare proposals, project scopes, and fee estimates.\nSupport client development through responsive service, strong project delivery, and continued relationship-building.\nCollaborate with other Coffman offices to balance workload and share technical expertise.\nContribute to the continued growth of the mechanical group and Downtown Los Angeles office.\n Compensation and Benefits\n Approximate Base Salary - $120,000- $155,000 annually\nPaid overtime at 1.0 times hourly rate\nCompetitive end of year discretionary bonus based on company/team/personal performance\nHybrid Work Schedule (subject to change)\n401k with maximum of 5% Contribution Matching for 9% Employee Contribution\nMinimum Qualifications\nMinimum of 8 years of U.S. professional experience.\nBachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.\nFE/EIT required, PE preferred.\nExperience designing HVAC systems for building projects\nFamiliarity with California Mechanical Code, California Plumbing Code, California Energy Code, and applicable ASHRAE standards.\nExperience preparing construction documents and engineering calculations using industry-standard software tools.\nStrong written and verbal communication skills.\nDemonstrated ability to manage multiple assignments and responsibilities.\nPreferred Qualifications\nCalifornia Mechanical Engineer PE registration.\nExperience coordinating with multidisciplinary project teams.\nExperience with plumbing systems is a plus.\nExperience with healthcare, aerospace, industrial, laboratory, higher education, K-12, civic, commercial, or institutional projects.\nExperience with central plants, utility infrastructure, laboratory facilities, electrification, decarbonization, or energy efficiency projects.\nExperience with construction administration and contractor coordination.\nExperience with project management responsibilities.\nProficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office Suite.\nExperience preparing proposals, scopes, and fee estimates.\nExperience collaborating with the Southern California architectural and engineering community.\nParticipation in ASHRAE or other professional organizations.\nExperience performing field investigations and existing-building assessments.\nKnowledge, Skills, & Abilities\nSelf-motivated and consistent in following through on commitments.\nTakes ownership of assigned work and provides responsive client service.\nAble to organize and prioritize multiple assignments.\nStrong critical-thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills.\nDetail-oriented with a high degree of accuracy.\nCommunicates effectively with clients, project partners, and colleagues.\nBuilds positive working relationships across disciplines and offices.\nAble to review the work of colleagues and provide constructive technical feedback.\nContributes positively to department and office goals, culture, and morale.\nApproaches challenges with initiative and a solution-oriented attitude.\n Why You Want to Work Here\nYou could choose to work anywhere, so why work at Coffman Engineers?
