Rest assured; we will always be clear about role expectations.\nWhat you need to have to be considered\n5+ years of hands-on Microsoft SQL Server and T-SQL development experience.\nAdvanced set-based T-SQL. Fluency with window functions (ROW_NUMBER, RANK, DENSE_RANK), common table expressions, deduplication and latest-record-per-key patterns, and conditional aggregation. Candidates should expect a hands-on exercise in this area - see the selection process below.\nSQL Server Agent - building, scheduling, monitoring and troubleshooting job chains in a production environment.\nSSIS - developing and maintaining packages, including debugging failures in deployed packages.\nAzure Databricks - demonstrable hands-on experience. Notebooks, jobs and workflows, Spark SQL and/or PySpark, and Delta Lake. This is a firm requirement, not a nice-to-have.\nMuleSoft - hands-on development of API integrations, including Mule flows, DataWeave transformations, error handling, deployment, and production monitoring.\nAI-assisted development (\"vibe coding\"). Demonstrated productive use of agentic coding tools such as Claude Code, Databricks Genie, OpenRouter, or Cursor to write, refactor, troubleshoot and document code - together with the engineering judgment to review, test and validate AI-generated output before it reaches production. Given how much of this role involves working inside unfamiliar inherited code, we regard this as a genuine productivity multiplier and we will ask candidates how they use these tools.\nPerformance tuning - execution plan analysis, index design, statistics maintenance, and diagnosing queries that regress in production.\nProduction support discipline - working incidents to resolution against service-level expectations, and communicating clearly while an issue is open.\nProfessional written and spoken English sufficient to explain a technical problem, its cause and its business impact to a non-technical stakeholder such as a dean or department head.\nAbility to work 100% on site in Irvine, California during standard Pacific business hours.
